"Kylie Morgan and bands benefit Guthrie"

A benefit concert was held Sunday afternoon on a well drawn up day from mother nature as the Guthrie Animal Shelter and God’s Food Bank benefited from local music artists.

Those who came and watch donated canned items that benefited “No Appetite for Hunger” a program at God’s Food Bank. The food bank, a non-denominational organization that feeds needy families in Logan County, with the goal of touching people’s hearts, fighting hunger and giving hope, serves 5,000 people a month. The program is needing help to continue their service during this time of year. Help donate by visiting their website.

If the live entertainment was not enough, hamburgers and hot dogs were served throughout the event the three-hour event.

Guthrie Chamber President Mary Coffin addressed the crowd and thanked them for attending and at the same time thanked Joe Burris for his help in putting the benefit concert together. Burris, a Guthrie resident, is the President of Land Run Records based in Oklahoma and who has signed the music artists.

“Joe called us (Chamber) and wanted to know how he could help his town following the May 24th tornado,” Coffin said.

Burris, much like Coffin thanked everyone for attending, and urged citizens to continue to give to the animal shelter and the food bank throughout the year.

Morgan, 16, saw her dreams become reality in early 2010: The Newcastle singer signed a recording contract with LandRun Records, attended her first industry function in Nashville during the Country Radio Seminar just last year, and met with several of Music Row’s top music publishing companies. - Guthrie News Page

NEWCASTLE, OK — There is exciting news about an Oklahoma country music singer. Kylie Morgan might look familiar to you because she’s featured on Freedom 43 quite a bit.
She’s only 17-years old and recently got the opportunity of a lifetime. NewsChannel 4 went to her hometown of Newcastle for the story.
She’s a small town girl from small town Oklahoma going national.
One Youtube video was all it took and the producers of a brand new reality TV show were hooked on Kylie Morgan.
“They came and surprised me and said you’re going to open for this huge artist in five days’ time” Kylie Morgan, Country Music Singer/Songwriter, says.
That would be the producers of the brand new show “Opening Act.”
It’s the same folks that dreamed up “American Idol.” The debut episode airs Monday night on the E! Network.
Kylie says, “They filmed our whole journey. We had a boot camp; just getting to open for this huge artist. It was incredible.”
It is the opportunity of a lifetime for Morgan. They filmed portions of her episode in LA and Nashville and parts of Alabama!
“It’s the biggest opportunity of your life. You have so many things to think about. You work with all these amazing people that only huge artists get to work with,” Kylie explains.
Kylie’s one of several artists. They come from all genres. They each get their own episode and filmmakers document their journey.

"Did You See Opening Act Kylie Morgan?"

I watched the new E! show “Opening Act” last night and I loved it!

Kylie Morgan was chosen to open for Jason Aldean. Kylie was great! Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan were very sweet to her.

My favorite moment was when she walked out on stage at the Opry and Dierks Bentley came out to talk with her.

Check it out. - US 99.5

"Five Questions with Kylie Morgan"

Kylie Morgan is a native of Oklahoma and was voted one of the Country Music Association’s “Who New to Watch.” Kylie is currently working on her CD with Land Run Records. It will be released in 2012, and will be available via digital download and at select Sheplers Western Wear stores nationwide. The CD will feature the impacting song “Phoebe (It Matters What We Do).” Kylie’s episode of Opening Act airs tonight on E! at 10/9 C.

1. The show “Opening Act” is not a competition show like “American Idol.” However, it is a show where you compete against yourself to make yourself a better artist. What have you learned about yourself that you did not know before you went on the show?

Before I was picked for “Opening Act” I always thought I was ready – if I got my chance at fame I was 100% prepared. But when the opportunity did arrive, I realized I still had a lot to learn. After the show I learned that no matter what the challenge, I can overcome it and achieve anything I set my mind too. “Opening Act” was the experience of a lifetime!

2. What can viewers expect to see when watching this show?

What’s so different and unique about this show is that it’s not a music talent competition. Unknown artists are given their shot at fame by being the opening acts for superstars. The show follows us through our incredible journey to the stage. It gives the audience the chance to get to know us and our abilities. So in a sense, it’s like all of us have already won!

3. You were handpicked by International Emmy® winning producer Nigel Lythgoe. A man who is internationally known for his work as a producer with American Idol. Did he work with you directly? What advice did he give?

It was so amazing to have the opportunity to work with Nigel Lythgoe. Not only did I receive feedback from Nigel personally, but also from Antonina from Rock Mafia and Nick Cooper, vocal coach of the stars! I felt so honored that such influential people were actually taking the time to listen to me and my music. They really liked the fact that I write my own music, and encouraged me to continue writing as well as looking for other songs that fit my style.

4. You are very passionate about getting information out about bullying awareness. Tell us about it.

I think we all have had our own experience with bullying, including me. The truth is, you are not alone. 160,000 kids refuse to go to school each day because they are afraid of getting bullied. My bullying prevention campaign is centered on the message, “It Matters What We Do,” a lyric from the song “Phoebe” that I co-wrote. For more information about dealing with bullying, go online to www.pacer.org and learn how you can get involved.

5. Tell us about your experience in Nashville.

I am in love with the history of Nashville, Tennessee because it’s where country music originated. So, when I was told I was going to be flown to Nashville I was so excited! During the time I was there I got to meet and work with so many talented people that I idolize! It seemed like there was zero time to spare. Honestly, it was very overwhelming at times but I did my best to keep my eye on the prize!

"Oklahoma teen Kylie Morgan showcases her singing talent on new reality TV show “Opening Act”"

Oklahoma country crooner Kylie Morgan is relishing a rare opportunity not only to open for one of the biggest names in country music but also to appear in a reality TV show that's unlike the usual television contest.
The Newcastle teenager is one of the undiscovered hopefuls who will be featured on the new series “Opening Act,” premiering at 9 p.m. Monday on E!
“The awesome thing is I've never seen a show like this on TV before because there are no auditions, there's no judges, there's no, like, competitions or anything. I mean in a sense, we've already all won. You know, we've gotten the chance and the experience of a lifetime. That's what's awesome about this show, is it's not a competitive show,” Morgan said in a phone interview last week from Nashville, Tenn., where she was recording her new single “On the Radio” that will be released in conjunction with the series.
The latest show from “American Idol” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, “Opening Act” surprises up-and-coming performers with an opportunity to open a date on a major concert tour. Superstars Rod Stewart, Nicki Minaj, Jason Aldean, Brad Paisley, LMFAO, Jason Mraz and Gym Class Heroes provided the showcases for the aspiring entertainers, who were plucked from the vast YouTube and online ranks for the reality show.
“I know that the (big-name) artists feel like they were there at one point, and for them to give someone else a chance is really great,” said Morgan, who is prominently featured in the show's trailer receiving a surprise invitation from Aldean to warm the crowd for one of his shows.
Although she had previously opened for the likes of Steel Magnolia, the JaneDear Girls and Ty England, sharing the bill with Aldean, one of country music's hottest stars, brought her to a whole new level.
“It was definitely the biggest stage I've ever performed on,” she said. “I'm not used to the big lights and the big sound and all those people, of course. So it was an overwhelming experience, and it was something of course I'll never forget.”

Independent spirit
Morgan, who turned 17 this week, has been releasing music videos and live performance clips on YouTube the past few years while working on her debut album for Oklahoma City-based indie label Land Run Records.

“When I was like, I don't know, I think 12 years old, my Papaw got me my very first little pink guitar. So that's when I started taking lessons and writing songs,” she said. “I grew up with music. My mom was a singer, so country music was in my blood. I absolutely just loved being on stage and loved ... being able to tell people how I feel through my music. I love when people tell me that they relate to it.”
To begin their journeys to becoming an “Opening Act,” Olivia Lee from “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” shocked Morgan and the other YouTube standouts with the news of their selection for the reality show.
“We had no idea what we were signing up for. ... All of the artists were completely surprised and had no idea what was going on,” Morgan said with a laugh.
Each up-and-comer was given just a few days to prepare for his or her big opening performance, with the show chronicling its artist development team, which includes Mary J. Blige and Rock Mafia's Antonio Armato, working intensely with the aspiring entertainers.
“We went through all this training ... so it was an amazing experience, 'cause they like completely just tear you apart with each critical thing. It was really fun, though,” Morgan said. “The artist development team definitely taught me so much that I had no idea was even out there to learn.”
The Oklahoma native believes the noncompetitive show will inspire viewers.
“I'm just really excited to be a part of a show like this because the audience gets to know not only our abilities but just who we are as well. They get to look inside our lives and our journey to the big stage,” Morgan said. “It was just an amazing experience to be able to be a part of show that's so different and a show that's not out there yet. I'm just really excited to just see what people think of it. And I really think they're gonna like it, 'cause I know I really do.” - News OK

"Kylie Morgan Sings from the Heart"

At first glance, Kylie Morgan seems like a normal teenager. A freshman in high school, Kylie is a cheerleader and into the same things as other girls her age. The difference is Kylie is also a promising country singer/songwriter poised to record her first full-length album and shock the music world with her endearing tunes and heartfelt lyrics.

“That’s what I love, to get to follow my dream at 14 and still get to do normal things that 14-year-olds get to do,” Kylie says. “It’s hard to balance everything, but I think I’m figuring it out.” Although she admits she doesn’t get to do everything her friends do, she knows it’s more than a fair trade considering the opportunities that have opened up to her at such a young age.

Kylie grew up listening to Martina McBride, Reba McIntyre and Miranda Lambert. She knew at age 12 she wanted to sing. She started writing songs and taking guitar lessons and as her abilities developed, the subject matter of her songs matured. She started to get noticed.

Her catchy, irresistible melodies carry lyrics drawn from life experiences. Her music is uplifting, and Kylie hopes it helps listeners through the pits and valleys of life. “When someone has a bad day, they can turn the song on and forget about things for two or three minutes,” she says.

As their first signed artist, 2 Sisters have spent the last few months promoting her and trying to get her music out there. “They decided that they saw something in me and they wanted to do something about it,” Kylie says.

Kylie released a self-titled, seven-song CD in April that is available on iTunes, which features just her voice and a guitar. This month she’s recording for an upcoming CD where she’ll be backed by a full band. Her band mates are Nick Sigman on guitar, Mikey Hines on bass, Jerred Bauer on drums and Tommy Frizzell on percussion.

“It’s hard to find places where a 14-year-old can play, but we’re doing our best,” Kylie says. She played the Oklahoma
State Fair five times this year, and she’s been making the rounds at rodeos, carnivals and festivals, including the Moore Music Festival. Her young age may limit playable venues, but it doesn’t appear to be a hindrance to her craft. Her songs carry an unnatural weight; they aren’t the shallow songs of a timid beginner.

“I write all my own stuff,” Kylie says. “I think country music is good for me because I tell stories in my songs.” She wrote “Prom Dress” out of irritation with teenage drama, but perhaps her most meaningful song is “She’s Our Miracle.” Kylie wrote the song when she was in eighth grade, after an English class journal assignment asked students to chronicle the most difficult thing they’ve ever gone through.

Kylie wrote about watching her little sister battle cancer. Inspired, Kylie went home and wrote the song in record time. She played it for her guitar teacher who happened to be a DJ for an American Cancer Society fundraiser, Relay for Life.
Now, Kylie performs the song at relays around the state and it has become an anthem for the program. She released the song as her first single, with all proceeds going toward the American Cancer Society. “I want to let people hear it and I want the song to touch them as it touched me,” Kylie says. “Hopefully these donations will help find a cure. I’m doing what I can.”

Kylie is supported by her sisters and parents. “My parents are awesome through this. They are behind me 100 percent. It’s very nice to have parents who believe in me,” she says.

Her current Christmas CD is titled Seven Days of Kylie. “We’re going to get some of the old Christmas songs and ‘Kylie-fy’ them,” she says. She will also contribute her version of “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” for the Rodeo Opry Christmas CD, which will be available in all Oklahoma Taco Mayo restaurants.

Kylie dreams of someday appearing on the Country Music Awards, and would like to see her name in big letters over her home town. “Ever since I was little, I wanted to have my name on a water tower,” she says. “Hopefully, one day, the one in Newcastle will say ‘Home of Kylie Morgan.’”

Beyond that, her aspirations are relatively humble for someone with her talent and potential. “I want at least 100 people in each state to know my name and my music, and help cancer and find a cure.”

"Jason Aldean Makes Kylie Morgan’s Dreams Come True on E!’s ‘Opening Act’"

In the latest episode of the new E! Television reality show ‘Opening Act,’ 16-year-old Kylie Morgan from Newcastle, Okla. was picked to take the stage before Jason Aldean on a recent stop of his My Kinda Party Tour. That was the first of many emotional surprises for the teen.

Morgan’s video clip was discovered after the panel of seasoned musicians and music industry professionals (which included country superstar Martina McBride) viewed countless YouTube videos. The young girl’s powerful pipes pulled in thumbs up all across the board, and the show’s host was on her way to deliver the good news. Morgan was in complete shock upon being asked to open for her favorite male country singer, and to put any doubt in her mind to rest, Aldean delivered his own personalized message to Morgan via video. Emotions ran high for Morgan who eagerly accepted the amazing offer and opportunity.

Upon her arrival in Hollywood, Morgan had only four days before taking the stage in Birmingham, Ala. Morgan’s first day of boot camp training had her face-to-face with members of the panel of stars who put her in the prime position. She showed them what she was made of with a selection of various original tunes that she planned to sing on her big night. After the suggestion that she needed one more strong song to perform for Aldean’s audience, Morgan was flown to Nashville to work one-on-one with legendary record producer Dann Huff.

Once in Nashville, Huff played Morgan a special song he picked out for her. Morgan ran through the song in the studio with Huff behind the board, and slowly but surely started to gain her confidence as a performer. But when she found herself alone after a long day of riding an emotional roller-coaster, Morgan broke down to the camera, showing that when it’s all stripped down, she is just a young girl in need of her support system from back home.

The following day Morgan was back at it once again, hitting the streets of Nashville to soak in all that she could, including the Grand Old Opry. While she was told the Opry was closed down just for her, there was one exception made for Dierks Bentley, who had one more surprise for Morgan. After small talk about her having to leave her band behind in Oklahoma for this journey, Bentley called her band out from backstage.

Just when she thought things couldn’t get any sweeter, Morgan was given one more surprise when a tour bus decked out with her name and picture pulled up beside her on the street for Morgan to take to Alabama for her big opening act slot. But there was yet another surprise in store. Inside the bus was Morgan’s entire family, who would be accompanying her to Alabama for her incredibly special night of music.

Morgan proved to be quite the professional after the sun went down. Rather than partying it up on her home on wheels, she and her band ran through her songs over and over to make sure they were well-prepared for their shot in the spotlight the following night.

One would never be able to tell Morgan had any butterflies by the time she took the stage, looking like a pro who had been playing for crowds of that magnitude for decades. Following her performance, Aldean stopped by Morgan’s dressing room to congratulate the young singer on a job well done. Minutes later, Morgan’s family did the same.

Her family was still surrounding her when ‘Opening Act’ had just one last surprise for Morgan. The show’s host presented Morgan a for $10,000 from CoverGirl, made out to Pacer’s National Bullying Prevention Center on her behalf, due to all the hard work and determination to stop bullying, inspired by her emotional and personal song, ‘Phoebee,’ which she wrote after a young girl her age who took her own life after being bullied.

“‘Opening Act,’ I really believe has really changed my life,” Morgan said to close out the episode. “I showed the world what Kylie Morgan was made of. Now we’ll just wait and see what else she does [laughs]! This is just the beginning.” - Taste Of Country

"Oklahoma teen Kylie Morgan to be showcased on tonight’s episode of “Opening Act”"

Oklahoma teen to be showcased on Monday’s episode of “Opening Act”
The new reality TV series from “American Idol” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe will feature Kylie Morgan, 17, of Newcastle, opening for country music superstar Jason Aldean.
Oklahoma country singer Kylie Morgan is getting her moment in the national TV spotlight Monday (tonight) night.
The Newcastle teenager will be featured on the latest episode of the E! reality series “Opening Act” when it debuts at 9 p.m. Monday on the cable network.
The newest show from “American Idol” executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, “Opening Act” surprises up-and-coming performers with an opportunity to open a date on a major concert tour. Superstars Rod Stewart, Nicki Minaj, Jason Aldean, Brad Paisley, LMFAO, Jason Mraz and Gym Class Heroes provided the showcases for the aspiring entertainers, who were plucked from the immense YouTube and online ranks for the series.
Morgan, 17, has been releasing music videos and live performance clips on YouTube the past few years while working on her debut album for Oklahoma City-based indie label Land Run Records.

Jason Aldean
In her “Opening Act” episode, she will be shocked with the rare chance to warm up the crowd at a stop on Aldean’s massive country tour.
“Oh my gosh, I’ve never been more surprised in my life. Usually I figure things out and I’m not easy to surprise, but they got me,” Morgan said with a laugh during a recent phone interview from Nashville, Tenn., where she was recording her new single “On the Radio” that will be released in conjunction with the series.
Unlike “Idol” and most other musical reality series, “Opening Act” isn’t a competitive show. The program, which premiered earlier this month, doesn’t include auditions, judges or contests pitting the hopefuls against each other. To start their journey to becoming an “Opening Act,” Olivia Lee from “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” surprised Morgan and the other YouTube standouts with the news of their selections for the reality show.
“We’re not competing against each other. We want each other to succeed. So it’s a really awesome way to look at things,” Morgan said.
Each up-and-comer was given just a few days to prepare for their big opening performance, with the show chronicling its artist development team, which includes Mary J. Blige and Rock Mafia’s Antonio Armato, working intensely with the aspiring entertainers.
“The boot camp was definitely a learning experience for me,” Morgan said. “To be able to work with those people, it was absolutely crazy because you just go to a whole new level.”
Although she had previously opened for the likes of Steel Magnolia, the JaneDear Girls and Ty England, sharing the bill with Aldean, one of country music’s hottest stars, put Morgan on the biggest stage of her fledgling career.
“It was absolutely amazing,” she said.
When Morgan was about 12 years old, her grandfather gave her a little pink guitar as a gift, so she started taking lessons and writing songs. Since her mother is a singer, too, she grew up with country music in her home and heart.
“Music is definitely what I want to do with my life and it’s what I’m really passionate. So I’m definitely just 24/7 music pretty much,” she said. “After my freshman year (at Newcastle High School) I decided that I wanted to switch to online school and that way I could focus not only on school but on my music as well. So that way, I can make my own schedule, I can go at my own pace … so it’s a really great way to help me balance my music career as well as my studies.”
The Oklahoma native hopes that the “follow-your-dream” theme of “Opening Act” will make viewers feel uplifted.
“I definitely think they’ll be inspired just because they’re with them (the hopefuls) from the beginning when they are nobody to when they get to open up for one of the biggest artists in the world. So they get to see them go through the highs and lows of that journey. By the end of the show, I think you’ll feel for that person.” - News OK

Bio

Hi, my name is Kylie Morgan. I am seventeen years old and from Newcastle, Oklahoma. When I was twelve, I realized music was what I wanted to do with my life. It all started with a little pink guitar I got for Christmas from my papaw. I learned my first three chords and just fell in love with the fact that I could create songs of my own.

By the age of fourteen, I signed a record deal with Land Run Records. I was writing, recording and playing shows almost all the time. Life as I knew it had completely changed.

During those first few years, I came to realization of how much hard work and effort it really takes to try and get where I wanted to go. It was all about trying new things, scraping my knees and getting back up just to try again.

To keep up with my busy schedule I switched to online school my sophomore year. In December of 2012, I went on to graduate early with a 4.0 GPA.

One of the biggest obstacles I came across as a young artist was venues. Sure, I played my fair share of the smoky bars but the big question was where could I perform to reach my target audience?

When I was fifteen I was in a writing session with Liz Hengber and Rob Crosby. We wrote a song called, Phoebe, in honor of a fifteen-year- old Phoebe Prince, who took her life due to bullying. The song was so much bigger then we all realized. It created a platform for me to go to schools and talk to kids and teens everywhere about bullying. Not only was I making a difference, I was creating a fan base. It went from being a local project to a national campaign that has allowed me to spread my message and my music.

In July of 2012, I was chosen to be on the E Network's a new reality show called Opening Act. I got the opportunity to open for Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan in Birmingham, Alabama on the My Kind of Party tour. This show took me from national to international when it aired around the world.

I went from hoping and dreaming to doing and achieving. I have the confidence and reassurance that this is what I was born to do. Kylie
