Bio

“Everything happens for a reason” is the motto that Kyran L. McShaw lives by. Since the early age of 4 he has always believed that it was God’s will to make him successful in the music business as an experienced vocalist. With a concoction of styles, Kyran has found a way to develop his own niche as a vocalist by using jazz harmonies, classical breathing techniques, real to life lyrics of an R&B and neo-soul artist, and the feeling and emotion of gospel.

On September 19, 1982, while his parents, David McShaw and Ione McShaw, were in New York, touring with the Brownsville First Baptist gospel choir, Kyran was born in Brooklyn, New York. This was very ironic because he feels he was born to make music. Growing up in the church he spent many hours accompanying his parents at rehearsals and going on tours with international recording artist Timothy Wright and the Concert Choir. It wasn’t long before he sang his first church solo at the age of 4.

At the age of 7 he moved to a little town called Bullock, NC where he and his family began a gospel-singing group called the “McShaw Family”. The family was often singing at different functions in the area where he was encouraged to lead a vast majority of the songs. As Kyran matured in age, so did his love for music. He began to sing in various choral groups throughout middle and high school, developing a keen ear and understanding for music. While in the school chorus groups Kyran attended many workshops to develop his stage presence and vocal technique, which gave him the tools need to qualify for the 2000 North Carolina All-State Chorus and Brightleaf Music Workshop.

It was from this background that he decided to further his music education at North Carolina Central University. Hear he was given the opportunity to showcase his talent at various talent shows and showcases, which he ended up placing either first or second in competitions. While at North Carolina Central University (N.C.C.U.), Kyran seized every opportunity to embetter his vocal and music diversity by joining the N.C.C.University Choir, vocal jazz ensemble, Jubilee singers, as well as taking voice lessons as part of his concentration. He also remained connected with his church at home in Henderson, NC, where he served as the church musician of the Agape Christian Center. He also became a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. where he was granted the opportunity to showcase his vocal talents at numerous step-shows.

During his tenure, as a student, at N.C.C.U., Kyran was granted the opportunity to vacuum such artist as Grady Tate, Ira Wiggins, Darien Brockington, Dana “Yazarah” Williams, Woody of Dru Hill, Little Brother, Russell Simmons, and etc., for knowledge about the art and business of music. He has also been permitted the opportunity to intern at Deep Dish Records, where he was able to meet various house music D.J.’s and song writers in the Washington, D. C. area. These opportunities built his confidence in writing and recording.

Kyran’s first time singing in the studio (aside from performing at radio stations as a child with family singing group) was for his senior project in high school. From this experience, he states that’s when he fell in love with the whole process of recording and performing music. He has been blessed to have the musical talent and support that he does, both of which he plans to utilize to reach his goal as a successful music vocalist.

Prior to the completion of his demo, Kyran was granted the opportunity to collaborate with his fraternity brother Micheal Charlton about what they were trying to do in the music industry. Both saw an opportunity in one another, leading Kyran to sign with C & G Records, founded by Micheal Charlton.
