Bio

With her mixed heritage, Maia sings in English and Kiswahili, while her sound draws influence from both Africa and abroad.

After several years of wandering the world, Maia returned to Kenya in 2007 and established her current live act. Performing with a 6-piece band, as well as an acoustic/percussion trio, Maia's captivating stage presence and deep-dreamy vocals have been making waves through Africa.

Her Album DRIFT was released in February 2013 with accompanying tours in East Africa.

Her previous recordings include 2008's self-titled EP, featuring Oyster which appeared on Warner Poland's Ladies' Jazz Album Vol 6. Maia's music has also earned her two African Academy Awards for best soundtrack in Kenya's From a Whisper, and Uganda's Imani.

"Maia fuses her musical influences like a lounge chameleon."
The Guardian, UK
