The Beginning

LA LEY began their career in 1988-89, in Chile, as a quintet: Beto Cuevas, Mauricio Clavería, Andrés Bobe, Luciano Rojas and Rodrigo Aboitiz recorded Desiertos (1989).

But it was not until the release of Doble Opuesto (1991) – that marked a sort of 'official debut’ of the group. The album included the rhythmic Prisioneros de la Piel and a cover song by the Rolling Stones, Angie, which was released as a single even before the launch of the LP. In 1993 the group released La Ley, the LP which begins to gain international territory, primarily in Mexico.

Success and Misfortune

It was 1994 and LA LEY had earned its own place in Latin America but adversity would touch the band's fate; and in April of that year Bobe lost his life after a benefit concert in Chile's capital. The blow shakes the foundations of LA LEY, who choose to continue exercising the passion that had united the band since day one with Andres: the music.

To do this, Cuevas, Clavería and Rojas invite Abotiz to join the band again, and also call a friend guitarist: Pedro Frugone, who joins immediately and becomes an active part of the next recording, Invisible (1995). The album becomes an instant success and is one of the most acclaimed Chilean projects, giving them international status and setting the style that would define LA LEY, placing five singles very well on the radio: El DueloDía CeroCielo Marketand Hombre and 1-800 Dual

The next album following the success of Invisible was Vértigo (1998), recorded in New York, this one marked a movement within the Spanish Rock for its futuristic concept.

The Masterpiece

Uno (2000) is an album that shows the maturity of the three musicians at a higher musical and artistic level. The melodies acquired instrumentally in Uno show undeniable quality, and LA LEY stands through their work with a Grammy® Award for Best Alternative Rock Album Latino, four Latin Grammy® nominations, two nominations at the Premio Lo Nuestro, among other Latin American awards. From this album 5 singles were born: AquíEternidadFuera de Mí, Paraíso and Verano Espacial.

Then came the consolidation of the band in the United States. The MTV Unplugged (2001) was recorded live in Miami with album producer, Humberto Gatica and included Mexican singer, Ely Guerra, as a guest performer. The album received gold and platinum records throughout the Americas, it got three nominations for the Latin Grammy Award®, winning Best Rock Album award in 2002, two MTV Awards (Best Rock Artist and Best Group of the Year), two Premios Lo Nuestro awards (Best Rock Album and Best Rock Artist of the Year for El Duelo), several nominations at the Latin Billboard Awards and an ASCAP award for Beto Cuevas, as composer for Mentira.

Freedom

Libertad (2003) was produced by Humberto Gatica and KC Porter. This is a rock album, with distorted guitars, well groomed and powerful drums, and bass with more presence than the earlier times.  This album sold over half a million copies in America and Spain.

The following year they released their compilation Historias e Histeria (2004) which included their hits, celebrating 15 years of career and their first recordings. After completing their farewell tour, the group announced that they would be in a hiatus.

Retour, A Comeback

In late 2013, Beto Cuevas announces on his Twitter account the comeback of the band. On January 29, 2014 the band performed at the 2014 Movistar Free Music in Mar del Plata, Argentina, with an audience of about 80,000 people, they sang 5 songs that served as a warm up for a later show. On February 26, 2014 the performance at the Festival of Viña del Mar, was established as the night that Viña "shone" with hits from LA LEY.

On 2014, La Ley officially launched Retour, in Mexico, a "Best of” compilation with their biggest hits plus a new unreleased song: Olvidar, it’s a double album that includes a CD + DVD with the band's original videos.
