Bio
La Severa Matacera started their music journey in
Bogota during turbulent times in the history of Colombia. Way before any
Colombian band mixed Ska and Reggae with Rock, Funk or any other contemporary
genre, La Severa Matacera consciously became pioneers in blending all this
genres with a severe impact in what soon turn out to be an underground movement
with social content across Latin-Alternative music. In 2009 the band released
their album V.I.S.A. under Kallpa Records with the collaboration of renowned
New York composer and producer of Reggae and Ska, King Django. With 12 renewed
style tracks, V.I.S.A. explored traditional Afro-Colombian music, Jamaican
claimed influences Reggae and Dub, blending groovy funk and rock. The sound of
La Severa Matacera comprises the experiences of the band inside and outside
Colombia, with a glance of immigrant status in any part of the world and some
thoughts full of satirical tone characterizing the band. The work of La Severa
demonstrates the musical maturity acquired over 17 years of artistic life in
Colombia along with venues in the US, Mexico, Ecuador and Canada. La Severa
Matacera expands its aesthetics with strict musical arrangements. Their music
is full on tight sound, rhythm and strong social content blending Ska, Reggae,
Rock, Punk and Funk further to the roots of Afro-Colombian rhythms into world
music extracts. Currently the band is working in their next album due by the
end of 2012 including the already released singles Paranoia and Amish. In 2012 and 2013, the band toured Europe performing together with Panten
Rococ and Outernational.
