BIOGRAPHY:
La-33, a band full of Urban flavor!!! Its name comes out from the name of the street where the house they use as a meeting place is located. Many musicians go there to rehears, experiment or just hung out. You can feel that urban flavor in their conversations, improvisations and compositions. Different ways of thinking, dressing up, and making music bring out a whole new movement where we can find compositions, musical and even graphical and audiovisual productions with a mayor impact in the Colombian capital city culture.

Since the beginning of the new millennium the brothers Sergio and Santiago Mejía along with a group of their friends, most of them with previous experience in Jazz, Rock, Reggae and Ska, began to study the hot rhythms that come out of the Caribbean many of them used in what we enjoy and know as Salsa. After mixing all this elements and after listening to artist such as La Fania, Héctor Lavoe, Larry Harlow, La Sonora Ponceña y Los Van Van among others. Despite the Bogotanian Cold this 12 guys found out the potencial they had to become the new ambassadors of Salsa traveling around the world with the mission of making move even the stiffest set of hips. Clasic Salsa became the axis of their project including Boogaloo, Guaguancó, Timba, Latin Jazz, Son Montuno, Guajira, Funk, and Mambo.

Bio

La-33 was born in the year 2001 as a life project for the brothers Sergio and Santiago Mejia who thanks to its exposition and projection turned out to be the objective, the reason and until the necessity of an extensive work party that includes from musicians to an audio-visual team.

Like the “salsa dura” from the 70's La-33 was born in an urban environment, to be more precise in the city of Bogotá (Colombia) on 33rd street, now you know where the band name comes from.

After a prudent gestation time La-33 consolidates as a group of 11 musicians who at the rate of their commitment and the pressure of their listeners, partiers and followers decided to sponsor by themselves their first album “La-33” that was presented to the public on December 2004. Thanks to this independent recording La-33 started sounding all over the world mainly by “La Pantera Mambo” song that includes an adaptation of the melodic line of Henry Manzini’s “Pink Panther”.

Without no support but the power of their music and their live shows full of energy La-33 it’s been able to reach different countries such as Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Belgium, Italy and Germany, participating in important festivals next to artists like Chucho Valdez, Los Van Van, Isaac Delgado, Ng la banda, Willie Colon, Cheo Feliciano, Larry Harlow, Jerry Rivera, Orishas and Kinky among others.

During the year 2006 the young and talented singer Pablo Martinez enters to thicken the rows of La-33. He will debut in the new album programmed to be given to the world during the second semester of 2007.

At this moment the guys from La-33 are finishing recording their second album and they are packing up for their second European tour…
