Labhaoise Brennan

BandPopSinger/Songwriter

KD Lang’s intimacy meets KT Tunstall’s spirit. An Irish Norah Jones with a refreshing new voice who charms the listener with unashamedly melancholic songs. Accompanied by caressing viola and uplifting guitar, the result is an intoxicating blend.

Biography

Aware from an early age that she belonged in the world of arts, Labhaoise actually began her career in film, working behind the scenes on numerous productions such as ‘Adam And Paul’, ‘Lassie’ and ‘Breakfast On Pluto’. However, she chose to follow a different path after a chance meeting with song-writer Len Arran. After working with Len singing on the title track of a film soundtrack it confirmed for Labhaoise what she had always known. Deep down what she wanted to do more than anything else, was to sing.

A number of months after arriving in Dublin from Spain, Maria Angeles Alcala spotted an ad in a Georges Street shop window looking for a string player. Maria is a wonderfully gifted Viola player from Cordoba, currently studying with Felix Schwartz, and a graduate of the Rafael Orozco College. She promptly answered the ad and so began their friendship. This collaboration has produced a collection of honest, intimate and very personal songs, leading many to describe Labhaoise as an Irish Norah Jones.

Labhaoise has a warm and uncomplicated acoustic style which lends itself beautifully to the sensitive nature of the songs. The accomplished arrangments are exquisite in their simplicity with guitar and viola balancing perfectly to enhance the purity of this new Irish voice.

This musical venture has been gaining momentum with the group performing live in various Dublin venues throughout 2006. Labhaoise’s debut album is expected later this year.

Lyrics

You're On My mind

Written By: Len Arran

MAYBE THERE’S SOMETHING TELLING ME I’M THROWING
GOOD LOVE AFTER BAD
BUT IF I NEVER LOVE AGAIN IT WILL ALWAYS BE THE
BEST PAIN I EVER HAD
I’VE BEEN FIGHTING WITH MYSELF ALL DAY LOOKING
FOR A GOOD REASON TO CALL
AND I CAN’T GET AWAY FROM THIS STORM

‘COS TONIGHT, YOU’RE ON MY MIND
TONIGHT, YOU’RE ON MY MIND

I KNOW I SHOULD JUST GENTLY LET IT FADE AWAY
AND DEAL WITH THE STING
BUT ANY TIME THERE’S A WEAK MOMENT AND I
THINK ABOUT YOU, YOU JUST BRING IT ALL BACK AGAIN
WE FELL INTO AN EMOTIONAL FREE-FALL
AND GOT CARRIED AWAY
NOW MY HEART IS IN SUCH DISARRAY

‘COS TONIGHT, YOU’RE ON MY MIND
TONIGHT, YOU’RE ON MY MIND

AND YOU’RE STILL DEEP IN THE VERY CORE OF ME WHEN
I THOUGHT I’D BROKEN THE FALL

Vulnerable

Written By: Len Arran

I CAN SEE YOU’VE FADED
YOU STILL LOOK A LITTLE JADED
BUT THOSE SCARS WILL FADE

NO-ONE IS IMMUNE FROM IT
WE BATTLE THROUGH
THE BRUISES
BUT IT’S ALWAYS BE THE SAME

OPEN UP AND LET IT IN
‘COS EVEN WHEN A HEART’S BEEN BROKEN
IT’S FULL AGAIN
OPEN UP AND LET ME IN
COS I’VE BEEN ON THE OUTSIDE CALLING
BUT YOUR WALL’S TOO SOUND
PULL IT DOWN
AND BE VULNERABLE AGAIN

YOU LAUGH TO FILL THE SILENCE
YOU’VE COME TO RELY ON IT
TO HIDE YOUR PAIN

AND I CAN SEE YOU’RE NERVOUS
YOU’RE RELUCTANT TO GO FURTHER
WHEN YOU FEEL SO FRAIL

A Day At A Time

Written By: Len Arran

A DAY AT A TIME

LOVE WAS SOMETHING I WAS NEVER BORN INTO
I FUMBLED IN THE DARK
FOR SOMETHING I COULD TRY TO HOLD ON TO
THAT WOULDN’T FALL APART

AND I ALWAYS THOUGHT
I WAS STRONG IN MY HEART
BUT I DON’T BELIEVE IT ANYMORE

I’M GETTING OVER YOU
A DAY AT A TIME
AND JUST WHEN I’M OVER YOU
I HEAR YOU’VE BEEN COMING AROUND
PLAYING WITH MY HEART WHEN MY GUARD IS DOWN

YOU COULD TAKE ME OUT OF EVERY LOW MOMENT
AND PUT ME ON A THRONE
(IT) TOOK A WHILE BEFORE THE DARK CLOSED IN
ON EVERYTHING I’D KNOWN

AND THE SMELL OF YOUR HAIR
STILL HANGS IN THE AIR
SO WHY CAN’T YOU JUST LET IT GO

I’M GETTING OVER YOU
A DAY AT A TIME
BUT JUST WHEN I’M OVER YOU
I HEAR YOU’VE BEEN COMING AROUND
PLAYING WITH MY HEART WHEN MY GUARD IS DOWN
