Bio

Aware from an early age that she belonged in the world of arts, Labhaoise actually began her career in film, working behind the scenes on numerous productions such as ‘Adam And Paul’, ‘Lassie’ and ‘Breakfast On Pluto’. However, she chose to follow a different path after a chance meeting with song-writer Len Arran. After working with Len singing on the title track of a film soundtrack it confirmed for Labhaoise what she had always known. Deep down what she wanted to do more than anything else, was to sing.

A number of months after arriving in Dublin from Spain, Maria Angeles Alcala spotted an ad in a Georges Street shop window looking for a string player. Maria is a wonderfully gifted Viola player from Cordoba, currently studying with Felix Schwartz, and a graduate of the Rafael Orozco College. She promptly answered the ad and so began their friendship. This collaboration has produced a collection of honest, intimate and very personal songs, leading many to describe Labhaoise as an Irish Norah Jones.

Labhaoise has a warm and uncomplicated acoustic style which lends itself beautifully to the sensitive nature of the songs. The accomplished arrangments are exquisite in their simplicity with guitar and viola balancing perfectly to enhance the purity of this new Irish voice.

This musical venture has been gaining momentum with the group performing live in various Dublin venues throughout 2006. Labhaoise’s debut album is expected later this year.
