BandPopAdult Contemporary

A characterful alt-country electro-acoustic duo with finely crafted songs and a great delivery.

Biography

I have been writing songs and playing solo for years. I created Labour in Vain in 1997 and played with some guys back then in London. Gigs included Upstairs at Ronnie Fcotts, The Mean Fiddler and The Queens Head in Islington. I moved to the west country in 2001 and have contined to write and play. I have entered the UK Song-writers competition for the past 2 years. In 2007 I was a semi-finalist with 1 song, whilst 3 others were highly commended. In 2008 I am a finalist in the Country section with "Country Life" and a semi-finalist in the Adult Contemporary category with a further 3 songs. Seb and I hooked up in the summer of 2007 and we have been playing together as Labour in Vain since November 2007. Playing all original material we gig locally whenever we can. It's been busy playing around the traps including a gig at Glastonbury this year.

Rock 'n' Roll

Written By: Peter Arrowsmith

How tough can love get?
Don’t you feel exhausted?
How tough can we make it?
I seen people break it

And what’s the story behind these tears?
Falling all over everything
And what’s the comfort in this kiss?
Hey baby I just like it

CHORUS:
You and me baby we’re rock and roll
Dancing out the night ‘till the sun warms our soul
Falling all over in the morning light
It’s a tough old love; a rollercoaster ride

I think about you when you’re not here
I think about the love and the sex and the feeling
I think about what we can do
And I think about what I’m gonna do to you

(REPEAT CHORUS)

BRIDGE:
I seen people fall apart
Man, I felt their embarrassment
But when you hand yourself to this thing called love
Christ it gets tough

So in my wisdom I feed your needs
And try not to get too complicated
Hey baby you can lean on me
A tough old love; it’ll make you bleed

I seen people fall apart
Man, I felt their embarrassment
But when you hand yourself to this thing called love
Christ it gets tough

So how tough can love get?
Don’t you feel exhausted?
How tough can we make it?
I seen people break it

(REPEAT CHORUS)

Lucy's Song

Written By: Peter Arrowsmith

LUCY’S SONG
Speak from your heart
Baby, just say how you feel
Tear those words apart
And I’ll catch ‘em all for you
Well how low to go
There ain’t no room for tear drops to fall
Just speak from your heart baby,
And I’ll catch ‘em all

CHORUS:
In a world that can roll and tumble
In a world that’ll scrape and bow
You could be anything
Just speak from your heart
Be yourself

All of those mountains
Baby, you never thought you could climb
And all those oceans, I’ve wiped from your eyes
Speak from your heart
There ain’t no room for compromise
Speak from your heart, baby
And cast all your fears aside

(REPEAT CHORUS)

(REPEAT CHORUS)

Mary Go Round

Written By: Peter Arrowsmith

Mary Go Round

Round and round, mary go round
Baby here we go
Hold on tight
Laughing out loud
We’re spinning out of control
Spinning out of control
Spinning out of control

With arms outstretched,
Embrace the mess, as it takes it hold
Forget about love and all that stuff
Baby we got nowhere to go
Baby we got no place to go
Baby we got nowhere to go

CHORUS:
And you dress for an afternoon in the park
Dress for falling in love
You dress just to get exactly what you want
Baby I’m just holding on
Baby I’m just holding on
Baby I’m just holding on
Baby I’m just holding on

It’s a sunny afternoon
Blue sky blue, everythin’s a blur
You see, I spin so fast, all my happiness
Takes me back to were we where
Takes me back to were we where
Takes me back to were we where

And you don’t wanna talk about it
And I ain’t never seen a new beginning
It’s always the same old pretty little dress
Spinning around in the wind
Spinning around in the wind

Always the same old pretty little dress
Spinning around in the wind

(REPEAT CHORUS)

You see, I spin so fast, all my happiness
Takes me back to were we came from
Baby I’m just holding on

Country Life

Written By: Peter Arrowsmith

COUNRTY LIFE
Gonna move out west
Gonna find myself a home
Been tripping up the city lights way too long
Gonna find me a country girl smells like a wild rose
I’m gonna have some country skin crawling over these bones
I’ll find a sunrise and a frosty night
The cool, cool breeze of a country love

I’ll take what I got and move on down the line
I’m gonna roll like a mountain stream in the sweet sunshine
I’m gonna take myself to where the air I breathe is alive
I’ll put the stars in my pockets and horizons in my mind
Yeah, I’ll find a sunrise and a frosty night
Cool, cool breeze of a country life

CHORUS
Been sitting in traffic
Going nowhere
Every other corner just another dead end
City limits they’re closing in
Got myself too much fill of this city sin

(REPEAT CHORUS)

Gonna move out west
Gonna find myself a home
Been tripping up the city lights way too long
Gonna find me a country girl smells like a wild rose
I’m gonna have some country skin crawling over these bones
I’ll find a sunrise and a frosty night
Cool, cool breeze of a country love

Yeah, I’ll find a sunrise and a frosty night
Cool, cool breeze of a country life
