Lackawanna Carriage Works

BandAlternativeCountry

Lackawanna Carriage Works is an Indie Rock meets Alt-Country Band from Northeast Florida, which ends up sounding like a mix of Gram Parsons meets Dwight Yoakam drinking a tall boy of Wilco and The Silver Jews. Heavy on the harmonies and instrumentation and always entertaining.

Biography

Influenced by the music of George Jones, Pavement, Mercury Rev, Quasi, Gram Parsons, Yo La Tengo, Built To Spill, T-Rex, Gong, Palace Brothers, Willie Nelson, Elliott Smith, and Silver Jews. Lackawanna Carriage Works formed after the break up of three of Jacksonville's best Indie bands, when Ryan Turk and Brennan Hamill started writing songs together. What makes Lackawanna Carriage Works different from other Jacksonville Bands is that they play a new version of classic country music music once called Cosmic American Music in the 60's and now referred to as Alt-Country. While other bands in North Florida try to be as Indie Rock as they can be, Lackawanna Carriage Works plays classic country music with a psychedelic edge that is focused on the songwriting and melodies rather than being a cool Indie Band. Doing so in their Lo Fi style is what sets them apart from the other local bands from their area. To hear more from Lackawanna Carriage Works go to http://www.myspace.com/lackawannacarriageworks.

Heartaches Too Much

Written By: Ryan Turk & Lackawanna Carriage Works

I never loved no one as much as I loved you
Guess I never loved no one very much
and the stories I told I admit are getting old
Sometimes the heartaches too much
I spent a good long time with junk in my veins
You said its just a horse but I got the reins
I thought my love for you was more than enough
Sometimes the heartaches too much

So I take to the bottle to wash it away
but I cant drink enough that the memories will fade
Night after long night I'm cold in my bed
With an empty bottle a broken heart and your still in my head

If I would have stayed clean like I was supposed to
I'd buy us a farm and throw away this crutch
But darling I'm still here looking for that star
Sometimes the heartaches too much

18

Written By: Brennan Hamill & Lackawanna Carriage Works

well you're 18 in the city and so pretty
yes you're 18 in the city and so far from home
yes you're 18 and so pretty but nobody sees you in the city
yes you're 18 in the city and so alone

momma told you you were ready but you think now
momma told you what you wanted to hear
momma told you you were ready but you're not sure about that now
momma told you you'd be fine on your own

there was a boy who said you're pretty but you think he
was a boy who said what you wanted to hear
there was a boy who said you're pretty but in the end he turned out to be
a boy who left you all alone

so cry into the pay phone, cry into the pay phone
momma i'm coming home
you gotta cry into the pay phone, cry into the pay phone
momma i'm coming home

so you're 18 in the city and so pretty
yes you're 18 in the city and so far from home
yes you're 18 and so pretty but nobody sees you in the city
yes you're 18 in the city and so alone
yes you're 18 in the city and far from home
yes you're 18 in the city
yes you're 18 and so pretty and so alone

Shine So Bright

Written By: Brennan Hamill & Lackawanna Carriage Works

when you first arrived they held a big parade
how the crowd cheered how the band played
and you smiled brushing confetti from your hair
and you felt so certain that this would last
it was a brand new place you made a brand new past
and you felt yourself glow as you waved in the square

but oh, you wanted to shine so bright
so everyone around you would fade from sight
and now all we'd see was you
a brand new girl in the place of the one we never knew
well oh, we were all such fools

the time wore on you found harder days
you found sometimes you didn't get your way
and your adoring fans drew less and less and then
the sheep lost the skin to reveal a kid
so petulant and everything she did
and oh, we found our patience had worn thin

but oh, you wanted to shine so bright
so everyone around you would fade from sight
and now all we'd see was you
a brand new girl in the place of the one we never knew
well oh, we were all such fools

you made such a fuss, you made such a fuss, didn't you
you played all of us, you played all of us, didn't you
you made such a fuss, you made such a fuss, didn't you
you played us you played us you played us you played us didn't you, didn't you

once upon a time you held us in throws
but in the end our empress had no clothes
and what did, you think, we'd do
did you still think we'd love you?

oh, you wanted to shine so bright
so everyone around you would fade from sight
and then all we'd see was you
a brand new girl in the place of the one we never knew
well oh, we were all such fools
well oh, we were all such fools

Boys Will Be boys

Written By: Brennan Hamill & Lackawanna Carriage Works

when i was a boy i'd dream of blood on my hands
and washing entire empires away into the sand
and if kneel was my demand not a soul would dare to stand
boys will be boys

i would batten down the hatches and make ready for the fight
i'd relish in my power with a devlish delight
and in the face of opposition i would bark and scratch and bite
boys will be boys

sing, sing little boys
sing for all of the world's dark joys
and sing for the man you may become
servant to none
boys will be boys

my first encounter with a girl was my first lesson in defeat
strong as i was her demands i could not meet
and then backed into a corner i swore i'd never be beat
boys will be boys

well yes i was cruel but i was fighting for my life
fear cut me deep like the blade of a knife
and the boy inside of me was trying to survive with all his might
boys will be boys

so run and hide little boys
before the world can destroy
the man you may become
servant to none
boys will be boys

knowing girls could kill with will i fled into the wilderness
and felt right at home with apes in suites beating on their chests
in the fight to be the best i put my strength to the test
boys will be boys

and for awhile i ruled with razor claw and pounding fist
tallying my conquests made for quite a dazzling list
'til the strength of the conquered rose to more than i could resist
boys will be boys

so cry, cry little boys
for the world will break all your toys
and cry for the man you may be yet
if the world would let
boys be boys

so when i was a boy i'd dream of blood on my hands
and washing entire empires away into the sand
and if kneel was my demand not a soul would dare to stand
boys will be boys

that's quite a far cry from the man i have become
a shadow of my dreams slave to all master to none
and though i've white flagged my surrender the beating seems far from done
worlds will be worlds

so cry, cry little boys
for the world will break all your toys
and cry for the man you may be yet
if the world would let
boys be boys
cry, cry little boys
for the world will break all your toys
and cry for the man you may be yet
if the world would let
boys be boys
