"Ladyfish voted "Best Band" in Jacksonville"

Having a super-cute 16-year-old spitfire named Danni Eckstein as your female lead singer doesn't hurt your chances at winning Best Local Band. The otherwise make quintet has been an item for only a year and a half but they've already brought fans into venues like Jack Rabbits and Freebird Live. Their alt-pop sound and youthful looks make Ladyfish a shoo-in in this category, especially considering the brutes who've won in the past.

She didn't find her niche in high school extracurricular activities, so
Danni Eckstein decided to try something different. She started a
band, booked a Bealls department store commercial and is the
opening act tonight at the Freebird Live nightclub.
Not bad for
a 15-year-
old.
Eckstein, of
Ponte Vedra
Beach, said
she's not
involved
with music
at Nease
High School
because she's
"not really a choir-type girl" and she wanted to try out for Nease's
annual play, but she got sick during auditions.

About a year ago, Danni Eckstein had just started
her band, Ladyfish, and played her first show at
Freebird Live. Now, she's opening shows for Avril
Lavigne, playing around the state and releasing her
first compact disc.
Libby Jones, a career specialist at Nease High
School where Eckstein is a student, isn't surprised
by Eckstein's success.
"She's amazing. I've been very impressed with her abilities and drive," Jones said.
Jones approached Eckstein recently to write a song for a video that the school's television production academy
was developing. The video, called WreckLess, focused on safe driving for teens.
"The song she wrote was perfect. It gave me chills," Jones said.
The video project made it to the top 10 in the state and the organizer of the nationwide Project Ignition told
Jones that they want to use Eckstein's song in their national campaign.
Still, with all of this success, Danni's mother, Nancy Eckstein, who also manages the band, said her daughter
is still a typical 15-year-old. She attends Nease, maintains an "A" average, hangs out with her friends and,
sometimes, argues with her mother.
"She still gets in trouble occasionally, just like any teenager," Nancy Eckstein said.
Yet, unlike other teens, in April Danni Eckstein played the biggest show of her career, opening at an Avril
Lavigne concert at the Ford Amphitheater in Tampa.
