Bio

Believe it or not, the town of Telford, Shropshire has a number of things to boast about; namely being the birthplace of the industrial revolution and home to the first man to swim the English Channel. However, fast-forward to today and three finely dressed men are hoping to make the town appear that little bit bigger on Ordinance Survey maps everywhere with the release of their new EP, Brown Brogues & Plimsolls. Ladies and gentlemen, Lady Fortune are back.

Active in their current guise since 2007, Nick (guitar/vox), Paul (bass) and Lyndon (drums) joined forces due to a mutual desire to combat the musical apathy of the small town – and with no notable exports since T’Pau, a shakeup was long overdue. Having toured extensively since their inception, and with a strong collection or releases under their belts, including 2008’s Manners Darling LP (Magnetic Records), with their latest EP the band are staking their claim as one of the Midland’s finest acts.

Following widespread praise across the blogosphere, and mainstream radio spins from the likes of Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson for their 2010 EP It Ends And It Starts In A Dark Room, Lady Fortune were invited to appear on the BBC Introducing Stage at the Reading & Leeds Festivals. Capitalising on this, the band released two further singles, The Light From the Television, and 2011’s I Feel So Slightly Strange, each proving more successful than the last.

Always eager to get their music to a larger audience, Fortune returned to the studio late last year to record what is undoubtedly their strongest material to date. Recorded and produced in Walthamstow with producer Brian O’Shaughnessy (My Bloody Valentine, Primal Scream, Neils Children), the decidedly sinister Brown Brogues… EP tells tales of bitter break ups and life in your run-of-the-mill British new town, seeing Fortune take a fresh, darker approach to their guitar driven, rabble-rousing indie.

Teaming up with West Midlands zeitgeist Distorted Tapes, and with new material that pushes the three-piece’s musical boundaries, now is the time to leave lady luck behind and make a date with Lady Fortune.
