"North Jersey Notes - LadyKiller"

My band BlackOcean recently opened for Jersey’s own Monster Magnet at Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ, and what an amazing show with an amazing lineup! One band that really impressed me with their live show was a band called LadyKiller. These guys rocked and they were out of Hazlet, NJ. The unique thing about them is that Monster Magnet super drummer, Bob Pantella plays drums on their self-titled debut CD, which features the songs “Up In The Sky”, “The Baddest Show In Town”, and “Down In The Mouth”.These songs had some amazing guitar tones and harmonies, and were extremely well-written.

LadyKiller was formed back in 2008 by guitarist Justin Gallo and singer and guitarist Matt Burns, who ended up writing over 50 songs in a two-year span. It wasn’t until about 2009 when the duo discovered multi-instrumentalist, Jon Cabrera, who would help the band to hone in on their signature brand of rock ‘n‘ roll with a heavy emphasis on vocal harmony. LadyKiller’s self-titled debut disc was recorded within a two-year period at various studios and living rooms throughout Jersey. Justin, Matt, and Jon, who took on the bass playing duties, all hail from Hazlet, but call Red Bank, NJ home because they all have managed Red Bank Rehearsal Studios at some pointintime. The studio is actually owned by Monster Magnet bassist, Jim Baglino, which led to the band’s connection to Bob Pantella, who’s also known for his work with Riotgod, Cycle Of Pain, The Atomic Bitchwax, Love Among Freaks, and Raging Slab.

LadyKiller is still currently on the road promoting their 2010 self-titled debut release, and have since added drummer Tony Nisctico to the mix. This quartet had quite an energetic live show that is worth the price of admission. LadyKiller - Baddest Show in Town (2012)

Bio

In 2008 as guitarist Justin Gallo was finishing his Music Degree at Berklee College of Music, Matt Burns was dreaming of infusing metal with three part harmonies. Together, they started writing, with Matt pumping out melodies and Justin putting to use his vast technical knowledge. What they created was the groundwork for The Baddest Show in Town. They polished their unique sound by persuading good friend and previous collaborator, Jon Cabrera, to pick up the bass for this project and calling upon drummer Bob Pantella of Monster Magnet and The Atomic Bitchwax fame, to record drum tracks so intricate that it took them over a year to find drummer Tony Nistico, who not only does them justice, but saturates them with his own style.

In this album, LadyKiller has put forth a solid freshman effort that one would expect to be born if Alice in Chains and Led Zeppelin got together and had a baby. They have assembled an eclectic mix of melodic driven hard rock with creative bass lines like Robinson, brought back guitar solos that amount to be a third of an entire song in the title track Baddest Show in Town, and proven that they are a band even your girlfriend could dig with velvet smooth vocals and harmony smothered acoustic tracks such as Down in the Mouth. It is the kind of rock that reminds you why you love rock. It knocks the wind out of you and then makes you reach for the volume control.

It is their goal to inspire suburban youth the world over to pick up the guitar and get permission to line the garage walls in foam mattress pads; so that they and three of their best friends can spend hours ripping off LadyKiller riffs in order to fulfill their destiny of becoming the biggest band to ever get out their hometown.
