Bio

For pure enjoyable easy listening pleasure, Lafayette Charles presents a warm mixture of classic R&B and Smooth Jazz with lots of soulful and heartfelt singing as well as colorful and captivating instrumentals. Overall, Lafayette's CD, The Merry-Go-Round of Life, is a nice relaxing groove for all to sit back, listen and enjoy the ride.

Lafayette has worked with Grammy-award winners (Curtis Mayfield, Usher, and Speech of Arrested Development), and other artists, such as Bobby Valentino, and Raven of “That's So Raven” and “The Cosby Show”.

“The songs are about the things that we encounter in life, which I refer to as 'the merry-go-round of life', such as love, consequences for our actions, and spiritual awakenings” states Lafayette Charles in an interview with Delta Bluhe on 3/24/2006. As examples, Love Wait and Calling Your Name, which are considered two of Lafayette’s favorite songs, share those life experiences. In the interview, as Lafayette reflects back, he states that “Love Wait was inspired by those times in my life when I allowed very important relationships to suffer for various reasons. Calling Your Name, the last song to be completed lyrically, was about my decision to get back into a relationship after meeting someone who really made me look at love with a new perspective.” Return, one of the two instrumentals, delivers smooth colorful rhythms that touch and captivate your heart, mind, and soul.

Born and raised in Atlanta, GA, Lafayette is a musician having the unique combined talents of being a composer, songwriter, vocalist, pianist, vocal coach, and producer. A graduate of Morehouse College, Lafayette (whose real name is Lafayette Summers) was a member of the world renowned Morehouse College Glee Club, under the direction of Wendell P. Whalum.

Now, Lafayette has professionally embarked upon greater heights in his music career having chosen the name of Lafayette Charles in memory of his father and brother whose first names were Charles.
