Guitarist and vocalist Maite Parsi grew up in Puerto Rico surrounded by music, including a piano prodigy and a respected composer among her relatives. Maite taught herself to play the music she loved on guitar during high school, and performed for friends at parties. When she came to Boston for law school and work her musical side lay fallow until a hand injury jolted her into realizing she didn't want to lose her musical skills! As she worked on rehabilitating her hand Maite started playing and singing more regularly.

Violinist/percussionist Betty Widerski grew up in Lynn MA, where she played classical violin and viola. After college she was burned out on the classical world and stopped playing. Some years later Betty also realized that she missed her musical side, so changed genres by learning to play improvisational rock/pop/world music with several Boston bands.

Shortly after Maite and Betty met in early 2009, Maite invited Betty to bring her violin to a Puerto Rican house party. Betty immediately took to the music, and the party-goers dubbed her an honorary Boricua (the term used by Puerto Ricans to refer to themselves) after she spent the evening playing Latin songs she'd never heard.

After attending a performance coaching seminar week together in August 2009, Maite and Betty decided to officially form their band Las Aboricuás - the name is a play on "boricua", since one is an official Pueto Rican and the other "honorary".

Since then, Las Aboricuás has performed public and private gigs around New England, including The Nameless Coffeehouse in Harvard Sq, The Museum of Fine Arts, Harvard University, the Adams Federal Courthouse, EMC, North Star Music Cafe in Portland ME, cafes, restaurants, farmers markets, political rallies, and private parties. Plans for a CD are in progress.
