"Laika Virgin - -+-=+ (2015)"

Translation:

Minus and plus meet on rough electronic-alternative-poprockish terrain. You hear fuzzing guitars and syths, waving electro-beats, arrythmic patterns, cacophony, glitch, vocal modulations-manipulations and weird samples. And there are also beautiful melodies with decent amount of melancholy. Drums and bass lines are nicely put together, robust elements go grooving and then back again.

While it includes a large range of very different elements and techniques, it feels really natural - experimental yet catchy. There is usually one major problem with being experimental. You never know when it works and when it doesn't. Here's an album that is extremely experimental and likely has a track for any kind of music taste.

You might say that the album drifts too much between different styles and lacks consistency. But again, at the same time I think that dull “well-structured” music is boring and lacks exciting content . And that’s exactly why you should listen to this album instead of an average radio-pop. - Müürileht / Märten Rattasepp

"Estonian music in English language"

Translation:
This album is brilliant. Though.. I’m always sceptical when Estonians try to sing in English. But I must admit, Laika Virgin disabled this devil in my head. If I didn’t know it was an Estonian band I’d think they were from England.
It is nicely overproduced and sounds dark, smoggy and a bit gothic. There are lots of hints and parallels but it all feels very organic and natural.
This album is easy to listen but not easy listening. And it really carries this Laika Virgin’s magic.
A very good album, no matter that in English.

"Trying on Various Masks for Size: The Tallinn Music Week (Part 2)"

A similarly healthy sense of thespian humour is evident in Laika Virgin, who stage-name references both the 1984 single by a young Madonna and a famous dog of the Soviet space race. Conceived in 2008, the band's lineup has often changed, both in and out of the studio. Their debut album, for example, employed nine different vocalists... They included various figures from differing corners of Estonian media. The band invited not only contestants from Estonia's equivalent of the "Idol" talent shows, but also primetime actors. In a word, multiple figures of conservative entertainment were nudged towards a formless project that used admirable levels of experiment, risk, and eclecticism. Chance was ushered in. - Far From Moscow / David MacFadyen

Bio

Laika Virgin is an Estonian alternative rock band with a colourful history. The band was born in 2010 from a collaboration between two friends, and quickly rose to top of the local music scene. In 2012, they won the Alternative Album of the Year title in the Estonian Music Awards.

After actively performing in Estonia, and a few concerts abroad, the band took a break to focus on a new album. Laika Virgin's latest album “-+-=+” was released on September 25 of 2015. It features a new lineup, all-English lyrics, and a fresh style.

The new album mixes hip-hop, alternative rock and electronic music. You can hear fuzzy guitars, heavy drum-bass, singing rap and buzzing synths.

Band’s previous appearances include all major venues in Estonia, Tallinn Music Week festival on multiple occasions, Vilnius Music Week, United Islands Festival in Prague and others.
