Laird began singing in church at a young age and unknown to anyone this tall, skinny boy with big feet could sing like no other. His distinctive, raspy and unique voice commanded a soulful force and with this force people began to notice that Laird was a bona fide soul singer. Since Laird grew up in the church he was not allowed to listen to secular music or have a TV. He did not know about artist like K-Ci & JoJo, Anthony Hamilton, Bobby Womack, Aaron Hall, Earth Wind and Fire, the Ojay’s, etc… It was not until a good friend gave him his first secular music tape of K-Ci and JoJo that he fell in love with R & B music and the chart topping 90’s group Jodeci. K-Ci was a musical mentor for Laird in the simplest aspect of showing Laird how to use his unique, distinctive, raspy voice to create music and make it sound beautiful through singing. During his time in school Laird played musical instruments in the orchestra, he played the upright bass and cello. He was so talented that the school band asked him to play the electric guitar to help them at state and regional competitions. Even without the support from others, Laird’s strong will and determination to showcase his skill and talent pushed him to begin recording and writing his own songs. Today Laird continues creating music that all can relate to with many influences motivating him to create good R & B music. Although Laird grew up without any knowledge of secular music or a TV and was pushed to work and not allowed to enjoy or pursue any extracurricular activities there is no one that hears Laird’s voice that can deny that his voice and talent could only be given to him by God.
