Lalita Mann

I have been writing and singing since I was little. I grew up in a recording studio and it was there that I developed my love for watching a song unfold on computer. In 1997 I co-formed a band called Release, and after a year of writing songs and practicing we played a few shows in Sydney, but eventually broke up in 1998 due to tensions in the band. Since then I have been focussing on developing my own style, listening to a broad range of music that would be anywhere from the Deftones to Norah Jones, from Nine Inch Nails to Elliott Smith, from Portishead to Garbage. My influences are wide, but I would describe my music as mainly pop rock, with industrial and electronica overtones.

My main story is that I grew up in a religious cult that I left when I was 19. I spent the next 9 years trying to find out who I was because basically my world was turned up on its head. I also left home numerous times as I was growing up due to a difficult home life, but eventually found peace in Sydney. I have spent years trying to find the right way to express all the thoughts I have had about what I have experienced so far, and my music is the truth of that. My music is no holds barred emotion, unfiltered, unencumbered and true to my soul. I strongly believe that too many female vocalists hold back emotionally from their music and I have made it my mission never to do that.
