Bio

Lalo’s love for music spans the diversity of two continents. Born in a Toronto housing project to Salvadorean parents his introduction to music came at an early age on the one hand from songs of protest from Latin America that spoke openly against the injustice of poverty, and on the other from the music of Hip Hop. It wasn’t long before he started making some connections between the songs of protest from Latin America and the poverty, and discrimination that marked his and his families’s lives. His older brother shared similar ambitions and began to DJ. Lalo was 12 when he would DJ along side his older brother at many house parties and clubs. Hip hop became his vehicle for confronting his reality by making music that brought his experience to the forefront and spoke of change, and the possibility of a creating a better future. At the age of 15 he wrote his 1st song. With a style purely of his own Lalo credits greats like Nas, KRS-ONE, 2Pac, and Gang starr for influencing him, and nurturing his talent. Now 21 years old, Lalo has performed all over from lounges in downtown toronto to the Annual Poetry Festivile in Kingston Ontario. He is now part of STEP UP a rising community oriented poetry group in toronto and will be releasing his debute album in summer 2007.

He considers himself a revolutionary storyteller, and demands substance from all music -- and it is substance that remarkably sets him apart from mainstream Hip Hop. Fusing the songs of protest, and his love of Hip Hop Lalo unleashes his political might and allows his revolutionary lyrics to seep into your consciousness. One of the most inspiring young Canadian hip hop artists to come out of Toronto.
