La Manta is band dedicated to the redefinition of Mexican Folk Music through its fusion with other styles mainly Jazz.
La Manta was formed in June 2009 in the city of Xalapa in the state of Veracruz, Mexico. It is conformed by five college educated young musicians with a high degree of mastery in the performance over their instruments. They all share the same passion for Mexican Folk music even though they come from different musical backgrounds and have different influences.
La Manta presents a different view of Mexican Folk music by mixing all the different textures of their instruments: from metals, flutes to the wood of percussions boxes and the low end power of the electric bass with the punch of the drums. All of this results in delightful combination where all elements of the Mexican Folk Music find a common ground.
The repertoire is conformed by a careful selection of all styles of Mexican traditional music from all over de country with the addition of original songs written by band members.
Their work constitutes a different an innovative expression of Mexican Folk music. It constitutes a renovation that reaches new and younger audiences.
La Manta is the voice that enhances the richness of Mexican music.
