Bio

U-Flo is a Texas Hip Hop artist out of Houston. He is on his way to being one of the most unique artist to come out of the state of Texas. Although the artist raps, he doesn’t like being labeled or called a rapper. “I’m a musician first, a family man second, then you can call me whatever” is what the artist always says.

U-Flo is a name that comes with many curiosities and wonders. An acronym for his birth name. Although not his first stage name, the artist intends to live by the morals of his first stage name. It was an acronym that stood for Loyalty, Ambition, Motivation, and Energy. These are four values that the artist lives up to in his everyday life. When asked about the meaning of his name and why he chose it, Flo always replies with the same answer, “I want to be different, I don’t want to fit in with everyone else. I don’t want to be like or sound like anyone else in the game right now. Flo started his career as a freshman attending Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi by simply rapping over instrumentals of some of his favorite songs with other fellow students and friends. He has a unique style which blends in with the rap stylings that pay homage to his hometown of Houston, Texas. Being a college student, funds prevented Flo from getting serious studio time and took matters into his own hands. With the help of fellow rapper and good friend Kidd Handz, the second half of a group formed by the two called GreySTAR and others supporting his music, Flo quickly purchased studio equipment and started learning how to record, edit, and master all on his own. Flo spent countless hours finding inspiration, collaborating with other musicians online, and dedicating time to perfecting his craft. Over time, Flo was able to release his first mixtape “Assiduous White Tiger” in November of 2011.

His first mixtape was very astonishing as the rapper demonstrated a great deal of potential with his ability to incorporate a variety of different genres in his music. This mixtape helped him gain more attention and brought him to meet with Martin Garcia who had worked with artist from Dope House Records located in Houston, Texas. Garcia had worked with artists such as South Park Mexican, Rasheed, and Baby Bash. Together with Garcia, Flo was able to gain more knowledge about the industry and learn how to make his craft and talent even better. He began to work on his follow up Mixtape “Never Fit In” which was released in April of 2012.

With a bit of more success following his second mixtape, Flo gained recognition from local promoters across the city of Corpus Christi and quickly started doing local shows and competitions across the city. His performances were out of this world marked by high energy and a sound that was unheard of.

Months after performing across the city, Flo released his third mixtape titled “Silent Sleeper” in September of 2012. Building on the momentum of his success, he landed an audition for an opening gig to open for rapper Sean Paul of the Youngbloodz. Sean Paul was amused with the talent Flo demonstrated and encouraged the young artist to continue working on everything he was doing explaining that it was only up from this point on.

Following that performance, Flo continued working on projects as a solo artist and did other projects with his good friend Kidd Handz. Between the years 2013-2016 Flo was able to release his 4th mixtape titled Unbalanced Universe, Kidd Handz first mixtape “Who is Chris Handley” and a series of songs on SoundCloud.

Flo moved back to Houston in May of 2015, during his time back in the city, Flo reconnected with a good childhood friend and local artist Trippy Hippie Rey. Fast Forward to today and the artist has dropped two very eye-opening projects that are making the industry turn their heads, take a glace and wonder who this guy is. Flo has Dropped “Captain Americano” That is a fun listen of collaborations between producer Trippy Hippie Rey, Engineer I dream in Stereo, DJ Jus Chris of the Freshpack DJ’s and Flo Himself.

U-Flo has also done work with Entourage Records from the Eastside of Houston, Texas. Entourage Records is ran by and consist of childhood friends Flo grew up with and received motivation to continue is music aspirations. Since working with the Entourage, Flo has released an EP titled “Paranoid” that is a collaboration, with Houston legend producer Bruce Bang. A project that “has a little bit for everyone” according to the artist himself.

On April 20th, 2020 U-Flo released a collaboration album with long time friend Trippy Hippie Rey titled "Good Vibes Only" under the publishing Mary on Marys, owned by Trippy Hippie. The Album consist of 8 songs that the duo have been cooking up for sometime. "This is a sit back and relax album" is what U-Flo is calling it. This is a chill vibe album that just simply leaves its listeners wanting more.
