"The Captain Amazing EP review"

In their best moments, they sound like a young Replacements or Guided By Voices (with some of the later songs even reminding me a bit of the Exploding Hearts), but then they'll include a song like "Gods Of Thunder And Lightning STRIKE!!!", which is basically the band joking around with instrumental metal in their garage for a few minutes. The first five songs were recorded in their basement, while the second five sound more like they came from a studio, but the songwriting is fairly consistent even if the fidelity isn't. This release is limited as well, so don't miss out again! MTQ=7/10 - http://www.indiepages.com/reviews/reviews.html?query=L&search=letter

"reacharound"

75 Or Less Records is all set to (re)release the Captain Amazing EP by Lame Drivers, a Providence band, 75% of which is composed of 60% of Get Him Eat Him. The disc was originally issued on CD-R in 2005, and this new version features 5 new bonus tracks.

Jason from the band wrote to me and said that I could feel free to post any of the tracks hosted on their music page, but I simply must ignore his request. Because I'm compelled to offer up this one, my favorite one:

::: Lame Drivers - Superbomb :::

Because it's like the Buzzcocks getting a reacharound from the Descendents.

"1980 vs. 1996"

speaking of Matt, the other band he's in with his Get Him Eat Him-mates, Lame Drivers, not only have some new songs in the can, but they're also playing a show tonight at the Knitting Factory Tap Room, 9pm.

::: Lame Drivers - Change Your Mind :::

Lame Drivers have always sounded to me like 1980 and 1996 slapping each other around in drunken argument. Live though, I'd say 1980 wins out a little over '96, so be sure to wear your skinny new-wave pants to the show tonight. Oh wait, this is New York, I don't need to tell you to do that.

"rock hard in JAMC fashion"

stroke your conscience by donating to a very worthy cause.

If that's your kind of language, 75 Or Less Records put a compilation of 31 tracks from 31 local bands together in a spiffy hand-silkscreened edition, and it all benefits the Providence Animal Rescue League (PARL), which provides for the rescue and relief of suffering of homeless animals and performs charitable or benevolent acts for the welfare of animals.

The compilation is called Rock Out With Your Tail Out, and as I said in the title, it's only $8.50, including shipping & handling, and you can order it here.

How's the music, you ask. Let me answer with a few mp3s. The first, Brother Kite's Get On Me (mp3), sounds perfect for a Sofia Coppola movie - moody guitar music seemingly from circa 1989, reminiscent of the great brit rock bands of that era, crossed with Burke, VA's Poole, and cross-pollinated with a little Matthew Sweet, maybe. Next, we've got The Baylies, who, with Let's Get Stabbed (mp3), prove that 2:22 is twice as long as a punk song needs to be. Lastly, there's Excess (mp3) (but isn't there always, when it comes to the Smudge?), the Lame Drivers' solid effort to rock hard in Jesus & Mary Chain fashion. - smudge of ashen fluff

"hollering for more"

...Lame Drivers took the stage a little before 10 and had certain members of the crowd hollering for more by the time they'd finished their set...

"Captain Amazing review"

The first time I popped in this album, I was drawn in pretty strongly to their dirty mix of Replacements/Stooges-influenced pop. Everything is loud and fuzzed out, and the melodies are fairly catchy.

Bio

"Hypocrites are not acceptable!"

Lame Drivers' motto could be summed up by this line from their new song "Change Your Mind". The song is about using surgery to go in to your mind. It's about changing the way that your mind perceives reality. This is also what Lame Drivers are about.

Lame Drivers love music, love freeform radio, and are sick of today's hyper-aware reactionary bullshit musicians and the corrupt independent music world (not to mention the corrupt mainstream and the corrupt world-at-lager). Lame Drivers are on a mission to play good music on their own terms.

Formed in Providence, RI in 2004, Lame Drivers are relocating to the NY/NJ area. Lame Drivers share members with Get Him Eat Him (Absolutely Kosher Records). Its members have also done time in bands including The Great Excape, The Blood Lemons, Forced Premise, ADSR, and 2nightmayorezzz.

Inspirations:
Prime Husker Du and Guided by Voices, The Zeros, The Gizmos, The Clone Defects, The Capstan Shafts, Home Blitz

Shared the stage with:
Flipper, The Gossip, Vic Thrill & The Saturn Missile, We Are Wolves, The Fake Accents, Snake Apartment
