LA MISION is and eighteen piece Afro-Cuban ensemble hailing from the cultural mecca of Chicago. The music that we play is a fusion of Afro-Cuban timba, neo soul, and contemporary American inspirational music. Basically, if Earth Wind, and Fire played salsa, they would sound like us.
Our influences from salsa include NG La Banda, Charanga Habanera, Isaac Delgado, Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind, and Fire, James Brown, and anyone else whose true spirit is amplified through their music.
There are many aspects of LA MISION which differentiates us from other bands. One of these aspects is that LA MISION performs songs in English and Spanish. Also, in honor of the spirit of neo-soul culture, we play original arrangements of popular 1970's soul classics.
Our story began on February 11, 2004; the day of our first rehearsal. The first rehearsal proved to us that we could perform our music at such a musically creative and expert level.
The rest will be history.
