Cool, hot, chill, sizzlin'... what positive "jazz" adjectives can be used to describe what we heard on Friday night? There aren't enough. The depth of sound, the rolling notes, the wash of melody all took us in and gently set us back after a very short 2-hour show. - Drogo's Cafe Myspace Blog Reviews

The Landfall Ensemble focuses on reinterpreting jazz standards and originals by combining intense group interplay, swinging straight ahead jazz, and a chamber music sensibility. The group is based in Austin, Texas and performs in a variety of duo, trio, and quartet formations throughout the Austin area. They have also performed in West Texas, New Mexico, and New York.
The group was formed in June 2008 by guitarist A.C. Benden, bassist Josh Flowers, and saxophonist Owen Summers. Shortly thereafter the group added Masumi Jones' expressive drumming to the mix. The group members come from very different musical (and geographical) backgrounds and a typical set reflects this diversity, featuring standards from the great American songbook alongside modern jazz compositions like those of Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter, and Charles Mingus, tasteful original compositions, and Brasilian music. The group often features neglected compositions by the likes of Charlie Mariano, Art Pepper, Alec Wilder, and others.
