Bio
"...they are one of the only garage rock bands in the United States of America that don't just repackage the Nuggets comp and sing about paisley daydreams and chocolate alarm clocks. They take it all the way back to Hasil Atkins, Link Wray, and Bo Diddley—and they make rock and roll sound scary again." - VICE
Lantern is a Rock ‘N’ Roll band based out of Philadelphia that is centered around the duo of Zachary Devereux Fairbrother and Emily Robb. The two have created a relentless maniacal Rock ‘N’ Roll animal, penetrated with fuzz-wah monsters, boogie-diseases, exorcisms, black leather and sex. Inspired by their idols The Rolling Stones, The Stooges, Bo Diddley, the Cramps, MC5, David Bowie, and all the originators of R&B and the blues, they wish to contribute their mark on the great american folk music, Rock ‘N’ Roll.
Their music has been released on Night-People, Bathetic Records, Electric Voice, Craft Singles and Mammoth Cave. They have been featured in Aquarium Drunkard, The Wire, Noisey, Vice, CMJ, Weird Canada, The A.V. Club, Altered Zones, Get Bent, Ad Hoc, and Impose Magazine, among many others. Byron Coley named their EP “Deliever Me From Nowhere” as one of the top 10 of 2011 in the Wire Magazine. In the fall of 2011 Lantern completed a 30 date North American tour funded by a successful Kickstarter Campaign. Since their formation in late 2010 they have performed with Dirty Beaches, Moon Duo, Mac DeMarco, White Fence, Woods, Ducktails, Natural Child, The Night Beats, Frankie Rose, and Purling Hiss.
Recently they finished recording their first full length with Jeff Zeigler (Kurt Vile, The War On Drugs).
Press Quotes
"Philadelphia rock 'n' roll band Lantern hasn't released a full-length this year, but if you combine the band's Stranger I Come. Stranger I Leave (released in May) and Lantern Summer EP 2011 (released in July), you wind up with the scummiest, nastiest garage rock record of 2011. " - Phoenix New Times

"Quite a few of the gems on Stranger sound like they were dug right out of The Sonics' lost songbook. The majority of the tape writhes like the first vestiges of garage punk, unleashing the kind of sonic fury that informed the snottiest of guitar tribes of the late 60's and left its mark on punks to come."

"Philadelphia trio, led by Canadian expat Zachary Fairbrother (ex-Omon Ra). It’s a totally righteous mid-air collision of Bassholes-style blues-roots disturbation, guitar overload (à la Randy Holden) and the stillness of space. Hard to describe accurately, but an amazing peace of work." - Byron Coley for The Wire
