"LANTRNS Landing at Bourbon & Branch 10/11"

LANTRNS (formerly Lanterns) are stopping by Philly’s Bourbon & Branch this Sunday, October 11th, with The Still, Small Voice, The Please, Please Me, and Trevor Bartlett to bring what will likely be one hell of a show!

LANTRNS, which recently have evolved into a new lineup consisting of Kaitlyn Mills on vocals and keyboard, Sridhar Ravichandran on guitar, and Jenny Palumbo on bass, released an EP entitled Bonfire (check out our article on it here!) back in early June of this year that displays the band’s dark, indie pop sound.

This Sunday’s show will be the second that LANTRNS will perform as the new lineup, so don’t miss out! Tickets can be purchased here or at the door! Check out a taste of what’s to come on the band’s SoundCloud and listen to the band’s EP below! - Rock On Philly

"Lanterns Premiere New Song “Bonfire” Ahead of EP Release"

Spring is a time of rebirth and renewal, and therefore a perfect time to explore new music and build your repertoire. For those into gothic pop (and even for those who hesitate), the newcomer band Lanterns may provide some new intrigue.

The Brooklyn-based band describes themselves as an “electronic indie rock group with a dark and ambient vibe.” The ambiance is definitely there, but their sound veers more into pop than rock. They just released the first single, “Bonfire” off of their upcoming EP of the same name. “Bonfire” is a mid-tempo pop song that is slightly reminiscent of the early 80’s. It’s pop, but certainly no Taylor Swift. The song is dark and moody, with some cool echo effects. The hallmark of the song (and the rest of the EP) is definitely the haunting, high-pitch female vocals provided by lead singer keyboardist Kaitlyn Mills and backing vocalist Amanda Casale. Victor Kao and Bill Grant balance the song with careful bass and guitar, respectively.

On the other three songs in the EP, the band experiments with different tempos, synthesizers, keyboards, and both stormy and spacey effects. These musical elements harken back to the progressive rock movement of the 70’s and it’s refreshing to see a band use these effects in a contemporary sound. Overall, the EP sounds promising of bringing something new to the indie pop/rock genre.

The EP is due out on June 9th, and you can receive updates from their Facebook page. Check out the trailer for the EP below! - Rock On Philly

"Listen: Lanterns Make Their Own Dark Electro-Rock Mark With “Bonfire”"

There’s a wealth of female led, darkly atmospheric, electronics incorporating groups out there. The xx, Purity Ring and Warpaint have all put their own individual stamp on this zeitgeist, but there’s always room for additional subversions. Also, it never hurts to have Robert Lux in your corner.
Relatively new Brooklyn-based electro-indie-rockers Lanterns are gearing up to drop their debut EP later this June and their initial offering shows a lot of non-derivative promise. Comprised of Kaitlyn Mills (Vocals/Keyboard), Amanda Casale (Backing Vocals), Victor Kao (Bass) and Bill Grant (Guitar), the band has started to boil up under the city surface playing gigs including their upcoming EP release show at Leftfield on June 5th.
First single “Bonfire” keeps you on your toes lyrically as the hunter implores the hunted to “run faster”, and sonically as caliginous keys meet booming drums and ethereal harmonies. Another Brooklyn band to keep your sights on for sure.
Stream Lanterns’ “Bonfire” below and look out for their debut EP out in early June. - Speak Into My Good Eye

"LANTRNS Light Up Bourbon & Branch"

New York City’s LANTRNS lit up Bourbon & Branch with their atmospheric sound. With front-woman Kaitlyn Mills on keyboard, Jenny Palumbo on bass and Sridhar Ravichandran on guitar, the trio drew the crowd to the stage as their electronic music echoed from the second-story stage throughout Fishtown.

Bio

The history of LANTRNS is one of evolution, despite the young band still being in its infancy. A series of lineup changes have forced the group, fronted by Kaitlyn Mills on vocals and keyboards, to adapt and grow while remaining true to its musical vision. Now joined by veteran musician Jenny Palumbo on bass and Sridhar Ravichandran (Heliotropes) on guitar, the dark electronic indie pop outfit is ready to sweep New York City up in its haunting and atmospheric sounds.
