Bio

Since the release of their debut CD Ç’a l’air d’aller in 2004, fans of the traditional music of Québec across Canada have been discovering the joyous energy and charm of La Part du Queteux. Bringing together four talented folk musicians, La Part du Queteux is part of a new generation of bands that are breathing new life into the music from their home province.
Their invigorating performances and excellent musicianship have been winning
over audiences in and around the province of Québec for years; now, with their second release Paye la traite in hand, they are leaving home to bring their music and songs to
the rest of North America.
The sound of La Part du Quêteux starts at the ground and works its way up. The driving
rhythm of Quebec’s traditional foot tapping, along with guitar and upright bass, lays the
foundation for mandolin, bones, snare, cajòn and, above all, four voices raised in song.
Their repertoire of lesser known songs (dug up from the archives in Quebec City), lively
reels, gigues and turluttes (mouth music) gets crowds up on their feet – which might just
lead into an improptu set carre, or square dance! The music is authentic and true to its
roots, with hints of modern influences like jazz, Celtic music and American old-time that
make their way in to subtly colour the traditional songs and dance tunes.
Playing on stage, teaching in a workshop, or tearing it up for a dance, La Part du Quêteux is a versatile, enthusiastic group that plays with heart and soul no matter where you find them. Their music brings the spirit of a Quebec veillée (dance party) to every show they play. Individually or as a group, these four musicians embody the high levels of musicality and passion present in traditional music today – and if your event is going to be a party, La Part du Queteux should be there.
