Bio

Lap Seven’s songwriter and lead vocalist, Vanessa Mardueño’s, musical roots are planted in the Los Angeles Chicano Reggae/Ska scene. For years, she played local cafes, small clubs, and bars as a stand out singer songwriter known for her unique guitar style and jazzy vocals. In 2004, Vanessa became a Christian. Naturally, her musical focus became Christ centered and she began using her gifts leading worship for churches and international mission trips. Her new focus, however, did not diminish the drive she had for creating her own variety of original music.

In 2009, Vanessa met her future bass player and husband, Stephen Beyer. Together, in 2011, they officially formed Lap Seven soon after adding Trevor Waring on drums and Kyle Jarrell on lead guitar.

The significance behind the name Lap Seven is found in the book of Joshua. In it, God instructed Joshua to march the people around the city of Jericho one time, in silence, for six days straight. Upon the seventh day, He instructed them to march around the city seven times. At the completion of the seventh lap, the priests were to blow their horns and the people were to shout, causing the walls to come crumbling down and allowing God’s chosen people to take over their promised land, their destiny. Lap Seven believes their music carries the same anointing as that of the priest’s horns on that seventh day, the ability to break strongholds and set the captives free.

Individually, they have an eclectic list of influences. Collectively, what they produce is a groovy / roots / reggae style of music that is in a class and genre all its own. Combined with spiritual lyrics, their music leaves you feeling inspired and ready to overcome your own strongholds. Their mission is to bring this music to the world giving all glory to God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Wasting precious time does not have a role in this mission. Within the first six months of forming Lap Seven, their song “Hidden”, was chosen for the Hardflip soundtrack, a Skipstone Pictures feature film.

Lap Seven is scheduled to record their first full length album in January of 2012 with Mark Mohr, founder of Christafari and Gospel Reggae, as producer.
