Lara-Jane

BandPopAdult Contemporary

A lyrical-ambient-acoustic-blues&roots-indie-pop-folk fusion, with a touch of jazz here & there! You may laugh, cry, be lulled, enlivened, turned inside out... through a mellow-yet-intense; richly-melodic; bitter-sweet; deeply transformative-yet-simple musical and lyrical journey.

Biography

Lara-Jane. A music-loving-guitar-toting-movie-buff... reformed-chocolate-addict-nature-girl... mildly-obsessive-compulsive-clothes-peg-colour-coordinator... night-owl-arty-chick-lover-of-mangoes & generally shy kind of person who, paradoxically, loves performing for people.

Her parents, avid music fans and musicians themselves, instilled in her a great love of music and contributed greatly to her eclectic taste. Performing from a young age, Lara-Jane has developed an ease and comfort with the audience and a unique and engaging stage presence.

Singing is Lara-Jane's main thing, but she also plays piano and guitar. At live performances Lara-Jane can most often be found performing either completely solo accompanying herself either on guitar or keyboard, or playing as a duo. Since late 2008, Lara-Jane has been focusing on recording and performing her originals, as well as developing a deliciously diverse repertoire of cruisey, acoustic covers of beautiful or unusual songs from the 1960’s through to now.

Lara-Jane released her first solo EP, "Wonder Floating Free", in 2009. Lara-Jane's style can be difficult to describe due to its diversity, however, the songs on this album certainly showcase her more gentle, cotemplative songwriting with sweet, soulful lyrics of love and mystery, weaved harmoniously throughout gentle, acoustic soundscapes of piano and guitar.

Lyrics

Jupiter

Written By: Lara-Jane Thompson

He said to she one day
I’d like to find a new place
Maybe we could fly away to outer space

She said, Jupiter and mars are a very long way to go, my love
But I would fly anywhere with you, even to the stars above

Let’s fly away
Let’s fly away
Let’s fly away

She said to he one day
I’d like to have my head shaved
Then gather up my hair and give it all away

He said, giving up your beautiful hair is a very big thing to do, my love
But I’ll still be gazing at you, even with no hair above

Gazing at you
Gazing at you
Gazing at you

She said to he one day
I'm tired of being afraid
Of not being everything that I ought to be each day

He said, you are like the sun and the moon,
You shine like the stars above
You light up this world everyday, more than you know, my love

You shine like the stars
You shine like the stars
You shine like the stars
You shine like the stars
You shine like the stars
You shine like the stars

A Lovely Princess

Written By: Lara-Jane Thompson

V1:
Once in her life she was a lovely princess
Simple and free, not a care in the world
But something was growing inside the girl over the years
And she didn’t know just how to let go of all her fears

Pre-chorus:
She has been brave and she has been strong, so strong
She doesn’t know how she held on this long

CHORUS
I think it’s because there’s a calm at the eye of every storm
And good in her life in so many forms
That she could always find her way home

V2:
She has been lost and she has been broken down
She has been tossed and she has been thrown around
Time and again, she’s given up and crawled inside her shell
But time and again, she’s got back up and walked out of her hell

Pre-chorus
CHORUS

V3:
Well she’s tried again to be a lovely princess
Simple and free, not a care in the world
But sometimes she just can’t see the forest for the trees
And it can be hard to get on with life when you’re on your knees

Pre-chorus
CHORUS

Wonder Floating Free

Written By: Lara-Jane Thompson

In my dreams I know you well,
But somehow know you not at all, at all
I look up to see you smile
You hold my gaze for a litlle while, your smile… your smile, your smile

And you are leaned against the door,
One foot crossed, one on the floor, the floor
You are cloaked in mystery,
But with your eyes you speak to me, to me… your eyes speak to me, to me

They speak of wonder floating free
In a land of timeless ecstasy

Where we just while away the days under the sun
And we just lie under the stars and dream of love

Though you could disappear tomorrow
And I could disappear today, love stays
She sings our story to the breeze
Who sings it on to the rustling leaves, they sing… of love, they sing

They sing of wonder floating free
In a land of timeless ecstasy

Where we’ll just while away the days under the sun
And we’ll just lie under the stars and dream of love

...Sing of wonder floating free
In a land of timeless ecstasy
You for me and me for you unfolding
Together through life’s mystery

And we’ll just while away the days under the sun
And we’ll just lie under the stars and dream of love
And here we’ll find a harmony of life so sweet
Where all our forgotten tomorrows live and breath…

Though you could disappear tomorrow
And I could disappear today, love stays
She sings our story to the breeze
Who sings it on to the rustling leaves, they sing… of love, they sing

Flow

Written By: Lara-Jane Thompson

You for me
Are all and free
Calm in my fire
Fire in my calm

You breathe
Your light on me
Wild and sweet
It flows through my heart
You flow through me
Through me

Your light on me
Wild and sweet
It flows through my heart
You flow through me
Through me

Round & Round You Go

Written By: Lara-Jane Thompson

Round and round you go
Round and round you go
You’re trying to find the words
The right words to say

To say how you feel
To say what you believe
To say what you think
To say what you see

But words can only ever really point to what you mean

Round and round you go
Round and round you go
You’re trying to find the signs
The signs to show the way

To show you where to go
To show you what to do
To show you who you are
To show you what is true

But even if you find them it’s still up to you

Round and round you go
Round and round you go
You’re trying to find the one
Who’ll be the one for you

Who’ll fill up your heart
Who’ll light up your life
Who’ll give you all their love
And stand by your side

But while you’re looking for love don’t forget to keep loving your life

Round and round you go
Round and round you go
You’re trying to find the words
The right words to say

Round and round you go
Round and round you go
You’re trying to find the signs
The signs to show the way

Round and round you go
Round and round you go
You’re trying to find the one
Who’ll be the one for you

But while you’re looking for love don’t forget to keep loving your life

Your Skies

Written By: Lara-Jane Thompson

Baby, baby, baby, baby, babe
This little world you’ve made
Precious as a newborn

Baby, baby, baby, baby, babe
I know you can’t see it now
But soon you will be
Right here with me again

And your skies
Will be blue again
And your truest friends
Will be waiting for you

Baby, baby, baby, baby, babe
I know that you hurt sometimes
Baby, baby, baby, baby, babe
I know that it’s not alright

Stop the ride, stop the ride, stop the ride, you cry
Stop the ride, stop the ride

But baby, baby, baby, baby, babe
Please don’t you go away
Baby, baby, baby, baby, babe
Please don’t you go away

Cos your skies
Will be blue again
And your truest friends
Will be waiting for you

And your skies
Will be blue again
And your truest friends
Will be waiting for you

And your smile
And your smile
And your smile
And your smile

Set List

Generally my sound is pretty mellow and sweet, but can be plenty funky and fun as well. Really we can do any type of set from very chilled and sweet to upbeat and lively, for either concert/festival/support act or lounge/bar/restaurant entertainment.

For all night (up to 4hrs) entertainment we would mix it up with mellow to funky and back again, depending on the crowd/atmosphere.

Our typical single set (of 45mins - 1hr) is a mixture of primarily gentle/laidback or sweet pop-folk originals with some upbeat contemporary or bluesy/bluegrassy originals if the atmosphere calls for it. We'll always throw in a few fun or unusual covers as well, unless we're at an all-original gig.
