Bio

Working at a South Side hair salon to cover their illegitimate side gigs, Danny Schwartz of San Jose’s Sunbelt Impression Machine and Steve Wieschowski of East Lansing’s No Fat Chicks met in 2007 and formed an intimate bond over their disgust with the endless droves of bad hipster bands gaining popularity among the over-educated and under-sexed. Or worse, pointlessly contrived fusion bands, considered “intelligent” and culturally refined. One day, sipping Fernet-Branca in front of the salon, they met David G. McQuown of Chicago’s Pandafaust, who robbed them at gunpoint, but chose to spare their lives out of appreciation for Danny’s The Melvins t-shirt and Steve’s Satan giving the finger and “PAIN” tattoos. That afternoon, Large and Lovely was born.

Since then, Large and Lovely has been harassing the citizens of Hyde Park with sexy Black Sabbath-influenced psychedelic sludge that has gained them comparisons to bands including Boris, Cream, and The Melvins. Their raucous basement shows have earned them numerous confrontations with the CPD and a massive collection of fine lingerie. They have performed regularly on the airwaves of WHPK 88.5 FM, and headlined 2008’s WHPK-sponsored McKwanzaakaa music festival.

Large and Lovely was born of primal soul musics, before genrehad meaning. This music is their bone--they play to stave off death, because there simply is no other choice. Through their veins runs a delicate blend of the sun bleached southwest and the frozen north, distilled in a rustbelt tenement bathtub. Their flesh is girthy, fed on Harold’s Chicken Shack. Gonna smother this city with some love.
