Bio

Larry Foley is a founding member of The Punters, a Celtic band with six albums and 15 years to their credit.

He is also founder of The 8 Track Favourites, purveyors of classic country music since 2002.

When not performing in either of these groups, Foley has done stints as the bass player for the Juno awarding winning, Irish Descendants, produced albums for the Avondale label as well as being a stalwart of George Street for more nights and years than he cares to mention. On Sundays Larry programs and presents “Potluck” on 103.9 KIXX Country, a radio show dedicated to the roots music of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Foley has performed across Canada, the eastern United States, and Europe. He was born and raised on the Avalon Peninsula and educated at St.F.X. University in Nova Scotia and studied at University College Cork, Ireland. He lives for the music of Newfoundland and the rich melodies the Beatles and “good old” country songs. Larry resides downtown with his wife, Regina. The rest you have to see for yourself.

His new, self-titled release is a celebration of his almost twenty year career. His compositions echo a deep seeded grounding in folk and country as well a turning your ear to his melodic sense of his Irish roots. This new recording offers an honest feel to a genre riddled with faux finish. The pedal steel and fiddle compliment his soft delivery and simply phrased acoustic guitars punctuate the statement of each song. Covers, wisely chosen, pay homage to the likes of Townes Van Zandt, Gram Parsons and Sylvia Tyson suggesting his belief in the linage of great songs and true songwriters. The record is a rootsy-joy and Larry Foley is a charming entertainer.
