"One Man Band"

No, it’s not a typo. I didn’t mean to say one man band, even though this individual could probably be considered a one man band. I wrote it that way because this individual, I think, is definition of man. His name is Larry George.

For those of you who don’t know who he is, he could be caught playing throughout the local music scene a couple years ago and has recently just resurfaced. I met him two years ago at T.C. Riley’s when he was playing there on a weekly basis. And from the minute I met the guy, I could tell he was a very interesting and unique individual. He would introduce himself to everyone with a handshake and a thank you for coming out to the show. Just a very appreciative person, but I knew there was more. And then he started playing. I thought at the time it was just him with his guitar. However, he is much more technical and talented to just stop with the guitar. He pulls out the keyboard and other things such as original samplings and orchestral effects that are beyond my knowledge (go see him play and you’ll know what I mean). Larry plays covers but is more proud of his original music and even happier to be able to share it with people. And he has every right to be. It’s really good stuff. And it’s personal stuff. His lyrics are based around what life as thrown at him, from the good to the bad things that have been handed to him. And what I really enjoyed is that he will explain the songs meaning before he starts to play it, which really makes you want to focus on his lyrics.

And now I’ll explain why the word I relate the word man to someone like Larry. He puts himself up there and relates to the crowd portraying himself as just a man, someone like you and I. Someone who has made mistakes just like you and I. However, he doesn’t make excuses for them. In fact, there are times he’ll come out and talk about those mistakes but puts a positive outlook on it for his future. He really puts himself out there to be judged, but he doesn’t care. He knows the good and bad things he’s done. And it’s really awesome to watch him perform and listen to him talk about those things that he has been able to overcome. I strongly encourage you to see him perform and listen to what he says. My words alone will not do him justice. Hurry though. He will only be in town for another week or so until he pursues a career in music.

He had a show Liam’s on June 4 and will play at Fuse on Friday, June 6 and again at Liam’s on Tuesday, June 10. Again, don’t take my word for it. Go out and see him perform and listen to his lyrics. But if you can’t make it out, at least check out his MySpace page where he has his original music posted (www.myspace.com/larrygeorge24). And Larry, I wish the best to you. God bless. - John Popko - The Weekender

Larry George is unique. His song styling and charisma make him one of the challengers for up and coming artist of the year. His personal repertoire of over fifty driving originals performed in sold out solo gigs is complimented by a complex range to play in any room.

George has studied Music in a lifetime of performances that began with his family at age six. Twenty years later he is prodigious with musical talent that spans everything with guitar to percussion.
