Get to Give

Written By: Larry L. McDaniel

Hey ya’ll …lemme hola
we gotta get straight with the dollar
I’m talking bout the cash
And building up your stash
It’s gotten outa hand
All across the land
Grabbin Coast-to-coast
tryin to take the most
Livin large in L A
Never worry how to pay
East coast rollin
Nightclub strollin
we got the cheddar, the cheese
we buy what we please
Call it cabbage, scratch and green
Flash a benji & slide into a lean

CHORUS:
Na, this can't be right,
all there is to life
there's too much pain around,
I can't bury the sound
I look at where we are and where we need to be
if you open your eyes I know that you'll see
we gotta change the way we live
ya, we gotta go from get to give

As the dough gets thicker
the rich get richer
Stack up the chips
buy a few more whips
Which one to drive
Number 4 or number 5?
Roll it up on dubs
With gold plated lugs
Go chase the bling
but don’t need a thing
so pop rocks in your grill
then find a place to chill
Drop a couple commas
on a pad in the Bahamas
Show it off on “Cribs”
And jealous envy lives

CHORUS:
Na, this can't be right,
all there is to life
there's too much pain around,
I can't bury the sound
I look at where we are and where we need to be
if you open your eyes I know that you'll see
we gotta change the way we live
ya, we gotta go from get to give

don't take this wrong
the message in the song
is meant for me & you
Cus we do what we do
We’re blessed with the bank
And God I do thank
But together my friend
We need a means to an end
The ask to the nation
Is more participation
It’s not about hate
But lets re-evaluate
Our slice of the pie
All the things we buy
The way that we live
And how much we give

CHORUS:
Na, this can't be right
all there is to life
there's too much pain around
I can't bury the sound
I look at where we are and where we need to be
if you open your eyes I know that you'll see
we gotta change the way we live
ya, we gotta go from get to give

we gotta change the way we live
ya, we gotta go from get to give

ya, we gotta go from get to give

Better Man Tomorrow

Written By: Larry L. McDaniel

I’m sittin’ in my favorite chair
my best friend is on the line
He’s searching for someone to care
he’s got a problem on his mind.
As he struggles with a choice
faintly over the phone
I can hear the tears in his voice
When he says
I didn’t know who to call but you…
what am I gonna do?
You see I think I’ve ruined my life
I know I love my children…
but I’m sure not my wife”

And I said,

Life’s not as easy as black & white
There’s not a simple yes or no
You’ll have to use your heart to show you the way
Then try to be a better man tomorrow than what you are today

I’m walkin’ down the avenue
shadows fall from a midnight moon
When an echo fills the ghetto
ringing death has come too soon
Violence and men again must meet
As the city comes to life
another brother dies in the street
It’s sad, a wasted man
How do we raise his child
to be all that he can?
‘Cus this life taken with a gun
has given to us
another fatherless son

Teach him,

To look beyond the black & white
Dream bigger than yes or no
To use his heart to show him the way
And he’ll grow to be a better man tomorrow than what he is today

I’m watching people prayin
to Jesus and Mother Mary
Allah, Buddha, Yahweh
our own crosses we all carry
We preach the virtues of love
Walk hand in hand…
the peace of a dove.
Everyone is searchin for the key
to open heaven’s gate
But Lord can you tell me
how does so much love
turn into so much hate?

He said,

Share your love from black to white
Look beyond the yes or no
Use your heart to show you the way
And pray to be a better man tomorrow than what you are today

Now I’ve said goodbye to my favorite chair
life’s lessons reflect in my hair
Subtle shades of gray to discern I’ve learned it’s not enough just to care
I see it much more clearly now
We’ve gotta learn to learn
We’ve gotta find out how
Make time to live…
take time to give
Cus, it starts with me & you
and it’s not enough just to care
we’ve gotta care enough to do

And,

It wont be as easy as black & white
There’s not a simple yes or no
We’ll have to use our hearts to show us the way
And try be a better man tomorrow than what we are today

Father Time

Written By: Larry L. McDaniel

come on, come on,
we’ve got some work to do
we gotta get real, we gotta stay strong

Cus the world’s spinnin ‘round
to a bump and a rhyme
And now my heart beats heavy
as I lay down mine

I’m so tired of the rappin spreadin hatred & lust
And the bangers out bangin’ bringing dust to dust

Watchin wanna-be-playaz tryin to be all that
Chasin bling’s illusion tryin to be all phat

It’s all about “You got yours & ya I got mine”
Then a child turns ten & gets dropped by a nine…damn

Well for all this poppin now it’s time to pay
Cus I’m the man in town & I get my way

Ya I’m the H N I C…I’m Father Time
Life’s about me… and yours is mine
I’m the H N I C…I’m Father Time
What will be will be… I’m the end of the line
Cus I’m the H N I C…I’m Father Time

(Time keeps on slippin, slippin, slippin, into the future…)

So get your pants pulled up & your hat cocked right
Cus I’m the man in town & I’m here to fight

I‘m gonna kick your ass, I’m gonna beat some sense
Before the life you’re livin is already spent

Ya, you got your bills rolled fat but they’re already mine
Cus for all your green you can’t buy time

Tick- tock- tickin … gotta change your way
With the life you’re livin your future will pay

Come on…step out of yesterday’s shadow & see the light
The hands on prison bars are mostly not white

Ya I’m the H N I C…I’m Father Time
Life’s about me… and yours is mine
I’m the H N I C…I’m Father Time
What will be will be…I’m the end of the line
Cus I’m the H N I C…I’m Father Time

(Time keeps on slippin, slippin, slippin, into the future…)

Playin cultural suicide… but you don’t have to jump
You can prove to this world you’re not another punk

But you can’t keep runnin where life & death meet
The city comes to life; a brother dies in the street

Then we loose another daughter; we loose another son
and another tear falls with the blast of another gun

You gotta step up…step out… and stop doing time
cus before you know, its the end of the line

And the second hand sweeps with only one life to give
Time is precious…this is your time to live.

I’m the H N I C…I’m Father Time
Life’s about me… and yours is mine
I’m the H N I C…I’m Father Time
What will be will be… I’m the end of the line
Ya, I’m the H N I C… I’m Father Time

(Time keeps on slippin, slippin, slippin, into the future…)

And the second hand sweeps with only one life to give
Time is precious … this is your time to live.
