"Mustard Style"

It's all about the Mustard ... Funky Mustard that is. Bubblin' crude and pure rock that is steeped in the tradition that has your soul rockin', like the masters of rock . Much like the Rolling Stones, Grateful Dead, Jethro Tull, U2, and AC/DC. Rockin' and Rollin' on the cutting edge. But, I want to know if your gonna leave any Mustard in that jar? I dig the sounds boys, keep the fire burning. Please remember, I always like it when you go down to Nawlins, especially like back in '67. - Jeff Kelley FM 90.9 KTSU

Bio

Funky Mustard was started in the fall of 2002. Funky Mustard started out as the name of a song we wrote. It stood for that jar of mustard in your refrigerator with the spicy herbs and rough-cut seeds that give it its flavor. From time to time the jar would be added to from other jars, thereby giving it even more flavor than it was originally created with. We started out with two guitars because that is what all of the true rock bands have...or so we thought. After some clashes in musical taste with our original guitar soloist lead to his departure, Robert Taylor joined the band on harmonica.. Robert had been playing in Houston with some of the local blues cats and he proved to have the chops for our style of Texas rock. We have settled into a natural rhythm with our change to Gardner Headrick on bass guitar. Gardner brings hard rocking bass lines with an abstract style to the mix. What seemed to be an odd mix (like that jar of mustard) began to blend into some great tunes. The true Funky Mustard sound was born.

Kevin Crenshaw, resident drummer and vocalist, and Larry D. White have played together for over fifteen years. They have played in various cover bands in and around Houston, Texas. Their most notable band would be Sneakyhurl. They played classic cover songs from ZZ Top, Allman Brothers, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Led Zeppelin.

There are no rules applied to our song writing. Our songs come mainly from our own life experiences and memories.

Kevin Crenshaw was born in Denton, Texas, but has lived in Houston for the majority of his life. He attended Baylor University on a music scholarship.

Robert Taylor was born in Glendale, California. He was raised in Indonesia and attended the Jakarta International School. He can be seen playing with several different blues guitarist all around Houston.

Gardner Headrick was born and raised in Houston, Texas. He has played in different cover bands, including Sneakyhurl.

Larry D. White was born in Athens, Texas. He was raised in San Antonio, Texas after brief stints in the San Francisco Bay area and New Orleans.

Houston is a city full of culture and we like to bring all of these cultures to the middle of what we create . With one completed CD, “Traiga la Paz”, completed and another one, “Alma del Fuego”, started, the jar gets thicker every time we play together . We can be seen playing in Houston at Dan Electro’s Guitar bar where we seem to have found a home for our unique sound and style of music.
