Biography

Larry Chorowski entered the world of the singer/songwriter in 2009 with his first home recording. His songs are a personal reflection of a Brooklyn Jew raised by concentration camp survivors, now raising his own family on Long Island, New York. Influences include Jethro Tull, Richard Thompson/Fairport Convention, Richard Shindell, Beatles and REM.

Larry and his family have been members of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Huntington for fifteen years. He has performed in many Sunday services, and he is a regular open mike performer at The Last Licks Cafe (http://www.lastlickscafe.org), a coffeehouse Larry and partner Gerald Moss created in 2003 for the Fellowship on the last Saturday the month from September through May. Larry looks to broaden his musical horizons while maintaining his own voice that uniquely resonates with listeners.

Frank and Camille

Written By: Larry Chorowski

Frank and Camille met at church long ago
She was so innocent
He was so crafty
Frank and Camille met at church long ago
All they know is they need a change
Frank and Camille came from separate worlds
He struggled all his life
She was the perfect wife
Frank and Camille came from separate worlds
And all they know is they need each other
All they want is each other

Frank and Camille have their hearts on their sleeve
They don’t know what to say
When folks get in the way
Frank and Camille have their hearts on their sleeve
All they know is they need a change
Frank and Camille suffer silently
They don’t know what to do
They know when love is true
Frank and Camille suffer silently
All they know is they need each other
All they want is each other

Three kids and a house with no yard
The years have worn him down so hard
Her husband travels round the world
Inside she’s just a little girl
They long for the past and see it in each other
And now it’s time to grab hold

Frank and Camille need to go far away
He is too innocent
She is too crafty
Frank and Camille need to go far away
All they know is that they need a change
Frank and Camille put their lives on the line
The ones they left behind
Are anything but blind
Frank and Camille put their lives on the line
Frank and Camille need to get away

Men Can't Be Alone

Written By: Larry Chorowski

Men can’t be alone
Men can’t be alone with themselves

When I was just a boy
I couldn’t find much joy
They promised me that I’d be so carefree
The ones surrounding me
Would never let me be
Unspoken horrors seemed to follow me

Men can’t be alone
Men can’t be alone with themselves

And when I got much older
I didn’t get much bolder
I never had to shoulder this much pain
He said I was a sap
For taking all this crap
And living in a tapestry of fear

I can’t be alone
I can’t be alone with myself

And now I’m getting gray
And healing every day
Without so much as a thank you from my heart
And now I lay to sleep
And praying my soul keeps
I’ll never have to live that way again

Men must be alone
Men must be alone with themselves

New Car Scent

Written By: Larry Chorowski

I can’t believe she is mine
Worked hard every day
It took a lot of scraping just to get it
Scrubbing, waxing, polishing
Now I have one of my own
She looks so damn pretty in the front seat

Roll down the windows, breathe the air
Her new car scent is everywhere, everywhere
The latest model off the line
I can’t believe that she is mine, she is mine

I loved her so much
The touch of her skin
Chrome, satin, leather, silky smooth
Parked on the hill way out of town
I kissed her, wouldn’t let her go
Pulled her in close, took in the scent

Roll down the windows, feel the air
Her new car scent is everywhere, everywhere
The latest model off the line
I can’t believe that she is mine, she is mine

We fell into the back seat
And we just kept on going
Further and further and further down
I realized what she was doing
When she took the brakes off
If she can’t have me no one will

Forgot myself and missed the sign
I can’t believe that she was mine, she was mine
The latest model off the line
I can’t believe that she was mine, she was mine
Roll down the windows, breathe the air
Her new car scent is everywhere, everywhere
The latest model off the line
I can’t believe that she was mine, she was mine

Fifty and in Trouble Again

Written By: Larry Chorowski

Do you see anything?
It’s so hard to make it out
Horizon’s further away
Than it ever was.

Soon I will be fifty
And in trouble again
My mind races with the thought:
What will I do now?
What do I do now?

Fifty and she’s leaving again
Fifty and we can’t seem to mend
Fifty and in trouble again

How I wish the world were different
My mind works every day
To chase the memories out
But they never go

Fifty and she’s leaving again
Fifty and we can’t seem to mend
Fifty and in trouble again

Do you value anything?
Do you reason without heart?
Do you fight for everything?
Then you are not much smarter than me
Then you are not much bigger than me
Then you are not much better than me

Do you see everything
I’ve tried so hard to hide?
‘Cause if she rearranged her thoughts
She’d see fifty like me

As A Country

Written By: Larry Chorowski

On this red table are the microphones
That the brass speak into each day
Serving up blood and lies
Serving up blood and lies
Words will fly across the screen
Telling us who, what, when, where and why
But not how much more
But not how much more

Is this the best that we can hope to expect?
Is this the reason why we’ll never get back respect?
Is this the best that we can come up with as a country?

On this red table are the microphones
That the suits speak into each day
Spinning up blood and lies
Spinning up blood and lies
Words are now repeated often
Speaking of home, god, peace, war and surge
But not the truth
But not the truth

And in between there is a sea of glass
That the press look into each day
Holding up blood and lies
Holding up blood and lies
Images that show us nothing
Empty of all heart, soul, trust, and light
That we need today
That we need today

Sometimes

Written By: Larry Chorowski

Sometimes you find yourself alone
Sometimes you feel your heart is a stone
Then I saw you pass by
Your light caught the corner of my eye
And this will not pass me by

Chorus
It was always meant to be
Heaven holds the winners and the freaks
And it’s always good to feel the warmth of your hand
Heaven holds the sinners and the geeks
And I’m always glad to see you

Sometimes I feel just like a slave
Sometimes I’m left to dig my grave
But I won’t let them push me around
I will stand my ground and take my bride
And I need you by my side

Sometimes I feel like a king
Sometimes my heart knows how to sing

Sometimes we all could use a hand
Sometimes we need a leg to stand
So if you give me half a chance
I bet you might enjoy this dance with me
It just might set you free

Losing Me

Losing Me
© 2012 by Larry Chorowski

Loving you, loving me
Is not as easy as it appears to be
This work is harder than it seems
It was so simple in my dreams

Helping you, helping me
Comes from deep within our philosophy
One can’t do better than their best
Our souls are just like all the rest

And then I turn my head
To roll around in bed
Then I look up and see the sky
And I know better now
I see things clearly now
Push off the gate, it’s time to fly

Losing you, losing me
Is not as hard as I had thought it would be
I must remain true to myself
There’s only me and no one else

And now my heart is full
I feel a steady pull
Of constant electricity
The universe grabs hold
And if I may be so bold
To say I’ve beaten back the sea

Loving you, loving me
Helping you, helping me
Losing you, losing me
