"Local artist performs at MD Anderson"

Spring Oberserver East, February 8, 2007

La Shaun Chaney, a contemporary Christian recording artist and vocalist was a guest singer at M.D. Anderson's 2007 Martin Luther King, Jr. Interfaith Prayer Service. Chaney, who originally hails from Detroit, expects to release her debut CD in late spring 2007.

She performed “I am safe". This is a song she wrote and it's based on the 91st Psalm. She thought it was a befitting song for a place known around the world for its compassion, life-saving and life-changing care. Chaney has been singing since she was 3. "What inspired me to sing at such a young age was the fact that I was always around music day and night," said Chaney.

At age 5, she developed a stuttering problem. Chaney found that whenever she would sing, the stuttering would disappear. So she spent a lot of her time listening to music and teaching herself songs to sing. "I have such a deep respect and love for music, especially gospel music," said Chaney. “I know what music has done for me as a child growing up and I thank and praise God daily for the gift in writing it, singing it and effectively communicating it from any platform I sing on. It's such a source of healing and comfort, but what I like best is the fact that it has power to bring about life-change. I'm a living witness to that fact"

Chaney is a member of Lakewood church and also supports world vision, a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to dealing with worldwide poverty and injustice.

"Focused, Called & Blessed well on her way..."

Positive review for Song "Saved 2 Serve" and CD "I am safe" from up incoming contemporary Christian artist, LaShaun Chaney.

The style is current, R&B with pop vibe. Style is similar to artists like CeCe Winans, Yolanda Adams and Mandissa. Passionate, classic rock/R&B influenced, hip with memorable melody. Outstanding vocals, great energy, passion and vocal talent that's make it world class. This artist lets' the songs breathe...

Great sound! This artist is focused, called & blessed. She is well on her way!

Bio

LaShaun Chaney
Born and raised on Detroit’s northwest side, La Shaun received her musical calling at a young age. She’s devoted her life to refining her ministry and her music.

Life Foundational Scripture,
You are my portion, O Lord; I have promised to obey your words…
Psalms 119:57-60

Personal Statement of Faith,
I was baptized at the age of 7. I received Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, as my personal Savior and Lord at the age of 17 and the Baptisms of the Holy Spirit in the year 2003. I believe that the bible is God’s inspired Word to us. My desire is to live my life for His glory, to obey God’s moral and spiritual laws, and to honor Him by using my gifts and talents as musical evangelization that restores, up lift and bring about “life change” to His people.

Salvation Experience and Desire for Christian Service,
January 31, 2001, I stood in the hospital at my grandmother’s bedside and prayed over her lifeless body. My grandmother always talked about standing on the promises of God and she often said this to comfort me. And at that very moment I finally understood what those words truly meant. That day, I learned a lesson that changed my life forever.

Life is a hyphen locked between two dates. And what you do between those two dates makes a difference as to how you will finish the race that God has set before you. As I held my grandmother’s lifeless arm and prayed the Lord is My Shepherd, images of my grandmother’s life flooded my heart. And in every one of those images, I saw her doing what God had called her to do.

That day, I prayed to God and surrendered all to Him. I asked Him to not let my living be in vain and to allow my grandmother’s desires for my life to come to pass. God got His glory that day amid my tears. And as my grandmother, the Reverend Celestine Denman surrendered her soul to Her Lord and Savior, I surrendered my all to Him.

As a growing child of God, I know this to be true. We should use our time, talents and treasures diligently in order to serve God completely. We must not make excuses to avoid doing what God has called us to do. Our time, abilities, and money don’t belong to us, we are merely the caretakers. When we ignore, squander, or abuse what God has given, we are rebellious and we will miss our blessings. And for a long time I was rebellious and it took the death of someone I loved to open my eyes to my purpose. So, I consider myself Saved 2 Serve with a personal mission of Reconciliation, to encourage the people of God to make good use of their gifts and talents for His Glory and the building up of His Kingdom. My goal is to reconcile God’s people through music, while representing God’s transforming love without compromise.
