Bio

Former UCLA ethnomusicology classmates and music junkies, Paul Terry, Selina Traylor and Pablo Milberg formed Las Manchas in June of 2008 in Los Angeles, California.
Las Manchas is the quintessential Indie band. A whacky, free-spirited, roots based Latin/Soul/Reggae band which doesn't apologize for adding a good deal of innovation to the world music infused genre by experimenting with new music technology (samplers, drum machines, synths, effects, etc.) while retaining the spirit and organic quality of traditional roots music. Still, the focal point remains on crafting danceable, melodic, and socially poignant songs.

Pushing the boundaries of world and pop music genres with a focus on well crafted, well orchestrated songs as well as excellent musicianship and elements of improvisation, Las Manchas defines a mixed sound, like Manu Chao, Sublime, The Beastie Boys, and Ozomatli have done in their own music.
The ever evolving group Las Manchas captivates audiences with rich and dynamic sets of their original Indie rock-world music. Always featuring new guest artists that specialize in ethnic instruments and styles along side their infectious 808 drum machine grooves, they have wide appeal among eclectic youth from hippies to hipsters to hip hop heads. The band has enjoyed reaching out to its community on activist radio stations like Xiapa con Tita in San Diego as well as participated in new artist competitions like VH1's 15 Minute's of Fame, in which they excelled lasting until the final rounds. More than all else they aspire to hit the road playing with their musical heroes in the Roots Reggae, the Indie Rock, and Latin scenes. The dream is to take the show worldwide and transform audiences with their powerful performances. The message is clear. There is a primal pulse that beats within everyone guiding us in dark or light. Las Manchas captures this throb in their sound, and delivers its message in poetry. Masks and metaphor invite the listener to snoop in on the inside of a seedy world gone mad, facing the inevitable collapse of its current institutions. It’s time to come together by sharing our souls to build community. Either that or give up and die
