Last Red Ember is a six piece, south Jersey metal band hitting the scene hard and heavy. Continuing a trend of brutal metal acts to emerge from the Garden State. L.R.E. formed in December of 07' when founding members Will Webster and Nick Dowe, who met as session musicians on an earlier project, set out to put together a project comprised of musicians that shared in their diverse outlook on music. "We wanted to have fun writing and not pigeon whole ourselves with labels or genres." The thrash inspired duo enlisted Audio Engineering student Jake Balsai on keys/synths. Intelligent as he is entertaining, Jake brought with him a flair for the dramatic with his industrial laden symphonic stylings. He was to be accompanied by versatile vocalist and graphic artist Richard Witzig, with a scream range from guttural to glass shattering. In 2008 the quartet then stumbled across the nozzle wielding axe-man Dick Horton at a gas station on the Garden State Parkway. With a passion for prog, Horton brought equal parts theory and creativity into the mix. The band would spend most of 08' writing original material while juggling other responsibilities, such as growing families, side projects, illness, financial woes and typical obastacles that tend to stunt any bands progress.
2009 started the same way 08' had ended and it was beginning to look like this Frankenstein-esque melding of thrash, death and industrial metal minds would never make it out of the laboratory. Finally in August of that same year the bolt of lightning that would get this corpse off the gurney was administered by National Metal Act and long time friends, SEKOND SKYN, introduced their guitar tech and road warrior Nick Prisco. A talented musician, fresh off a 4 week tour of the US with SEKOND SKYN was more then willing to pick up the bass and turn this idea into a reality. They played their first show August 22, 2009 and never looked back. Making a name for themselves and opening ears and minds to a new era in progressive metal. 2010 welcomed a full calender of tour dates, merch and the release of their first studio EP "Eradicating a failed existence." With the support of their friends in the industry and their families at home the sky is the limit for the boys in L.R.E.
