Music stirs the soul, and allows a chance for escape without going anywhere. Such is the case with Latrice McGlothin, a Jazz vocalist who despite living amongst the image laden pressure of Los Angeles delivers a down to earth alternative. In her debut album "A Breath of Fresh Air" you can hear the power of love in her deliverance. Latrice offers jazzy renditions to standards, old school favorites and spirituals.
Born in Milwaukee, WI, Latrice grew up listening to a diverse collection of music. As a child Latrice spent countless hours with her father listening to and discussing a myriad of performers like Mahalia Jackson, Wes Montgomery, Prince, Nancy Wilson, Barbra Streisand, Minnie Ripperton, and the Bee Gees. As she listened to these artists she was inspired and dreamed of being on stage.
One day while listening to the Songs in the Key of Life album by Stevie Wonder her life was changed. It is the contents of the song Nicuelela (I am Singing) that made Latrice want to change the lives of others through song. This gave birth to “A Breath of Fresh Air�.
In her new release “A Breath of Fresh Air� you will experience Latrice’s mission of love and peace take flight as she sings messages of victory, humility, taking chances and love. The purpose of “A Breath of Fresh Air� is to give audiences a moment to reflect on good memories. A chance to relax and be still, a time to retreat from stress and to remove negative images in music by offering responsible music. “Music today offers so many versions of love; I want to provide an alternative that can be shared without offense�, states Latrice. One of Latrice’s goals is to inspire others to take risks and step out on faith to make their dreams come true. This is advice she had to take herself.
With the undying childhood dream of working as a solo vocalist the finished product was a few years in the making. Latrice was side tracked by life as she worked in theater and banking for years. It wasn’t until 5 years ago that she reconnected with her passion.
With new energy she assembled a support team and set out to produce her first album. The CD, A Breath of Fresh Air celebrates the skillful writings of Burt Bacharach & Hal David, Charles Jackson Jr. & Marvin Yancy and India Aire to name a few. “It was an honor to remake this amazing music and to have shared in the creative process. Every aspect of this process has brought with it a new and rewarding experience.�
