La Unica Irish Band
If Washington can support an Irish-Jewish pub (Star & Shamrock
Tavern & Deli on H Street), why not an Irish-Latin rock band? La Unica,
a combination of two South American and three Irish American musicians, provides the nations capital with just that a unique and compelling rock band that blends traditional Irish music with rockin Latin rhythms. The result is something like Gypsy Kings meets The Chieftains with heavier rock drums. La Unica doesnt have a disc yet (theyre working on their debut) but they do have some gigs lined up and a growing fan base. Various clips of the band online reveal a well-oiled outfit that uses traditional instruments congas, violins, piccolos, as well as electric guitars to produce a high-energy show. The month of March, especially around St. Patricks Day, is a great time to check out this up-and-coming local band.-MC - On Tap Magazine

La Única (\lä, oo’-nee-kä\) is a uniquely integrated band, combining contemporary and traditional elements to form a distinctly American sound. The band experiments with a variety of musical influences -- including Irish folk, Latin, funk, rock, and soul -- to convey an experience that is now defining the genre of New American Roots.
