"Austin's Laura Freeman"

Kids' entertainer Laura Freeman is back in action with a new CD that's not only good - it's also educational.
Color Wheel Cartwheel is all about colors so it's a mini-lesson as well as fun music. The CD starts out with a list of the colors of the rainbow in English and Spanish and then delves into songs about each color. Between each consecutive song, kids learn how to say the word "rainbow" and it's colors in different languages. It's cool, smart and frankly interesting.

As for the music...well, what's not to like about Laura Freeman? The woman's talent knows no bounds and this CD showcases it nicely. The songs run the gamit from country to blues to jazz to bluegrass to rock'n'roll. Freeman, who began her career as a sassy adult singer, isin her element in all (for her adult music, check out Laura Freeman's Greatest Hits from her 20's and 30's). Kids - and, let's face it, parents too - will enjoy the range of musical styles as well as the educational (and funny) bent to the lyrics. Really, the song "Green" is as good as anything you'll hear on country radio, and "We'll Make a Rainbow in this Room" is like something straight out of KUT's Folkways.

Who needs to know Color Wheel Cartwheel as a kids' CD when you're cruising down the road with the radio blasting? Your children will appreciate your abandon and passersby will enjoy the music

Bio

I had been singing and writing "grown up songs" for about 15 years. I met a bunch of kids in New Orleans and started playing with them and realised that family music is where it's at. Inspired, I wrote an entire album of songs before playing my first kid show, which was terrifying. I was touring with a band called the "Road Dog Divas" at the time and started doing my kid shows on the children's stage of several festivals - Vancouver Folk Fest and New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Fest to name a couple. I now live in Austin, Texas and perform regularly in schools and libraries throughout the state. I've just produced my second children's album -Color Wheel Cartwheel. It has a song for every color in the rainbow. The colors are spoken in 9 different languages and there is a host of fine musicians - mainly friends of mine from the rich New Orleans music scene. I want to get folks singing together it's good medicine and a lot of fun.
