"Shad Ireland Foundation’s Great Unsigned Benefit Concert and Health Fair | November 12th and 13th | myATLevents"

Yung Joc, Reec, Reggie Howard, Marcus McNeill with Shad Ireland Host Local Music Artists to Raise Funds for Free Health Fair to Target Education and Prevention of Kidney Disease and Its Major Causes

Obesity, which often leads to kidney disease, will be a major focus of the Shad Ireland Foundation’s Great Unsigned Benefit Concert and Health Fair in Atlanta on November 12th and 13th.

The weekend will feature health screenings, healthy cooking demonstrations, entertainment, and lots of activities for children and families on Saturday, November 13th from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m and a Buckhead Theatre concert and fashion show on Friday, November 12th. Celebrities from the athletic and music industries will be on-sight at both events for appearances and performances. The events are designed to reach underserved communities in the African-American and Latino neighborhoods in Metro Atlanta.

Shad Ireland, the only man on kidney dialysis in the world to start and finish an Ironman Triathlon Competition (20 triathlons in all), started his Foundation in 2004 and is dedicated to education, prevention, access and awareness regarding kidney disease and its major causes, obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes. “The Urban Music Initiative is a great step forward in reaching a community which is at much greater risk of contracting this disease than normal,” he said. “Music has the ability to inspire, educate and unite. It is also a medium the young folks listen to and heed.”

The Shad Ireland Foundation’s Great Unsigned Benefit Concert will be hosted by Yung Joc, Reec, Reggie Howard, Marcus McNeill and Shad Ireland on Friday, November 12, 2010 beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Urban Music Initiative Concert will be held at the newly renovated Buckhead Theatre with a star-studded red carpet event filled with celebrities, media, professional athletes and artists in attendance to watch both unsigned and national recording artists perform.

Hot Java Clothing Company will have a fashion show, featuring the band Glory, to start off the concert. There will also be performances by Kaye Styles, Snipe, and Laura Luke along with Atlanta‘s own, The Riot.

BIRMINGHAM ARTIST LAURA LUKE HOSTS THANKSGIVING CONCERT WITH A CAUSE
Birmingham-AL--Musician, Mother, Songstress, Survivor…Laura Luke is far from your average entertainer. She’s a 21st century force to be reckoned with that packs the powerful punch of pop, jazz and hip-hop laced with lyrical legitimacy only birthed from the joys and struggles of life.
Laura Luke and friends will be hosting a Pre-Thanksgiving Concert and Video Release Party on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Birmingham’s BOSS Lounge beginning at 9 pm. Admission is only $5. BOSS Lounge is located at: 312 20th Street South, Birmingham, AL. The jam session will feature DAT2 and will also boast an eclectic collection of area musicians along with food and a live video taping. “This concert will be Laura’s musical coming out celebration. We hope to also use it as a platform to promote other local artists and make people aware of Birmingham’s ultra unique music scene,” said Manager Aquil Abdur-Rasheed.
Hailing from Birmingham, Alabama, Laura Luke (born Laura Mae Coleman), penned her first poetic prose and discovered her talent for writing and singing by age eight. She grew up singing in churches around the state with her sisters. It was during this time that the budding musician also honed her passion for trumpet playing, jazz and the entertainment spotlight with the late Jothan Callins as a part of the legendary Birmingham Youth Jazz Ensemble. A special tribute to Mr. Callins will take place at the concert. Laura Luke's blossoming romance with jazz and newfound confidence set the stage for her emergence as a lead vocalist. As with most artists, as she matured, so did the subject matter of Luke’s music.
After several years of marriage, childbirth, divorce, and job loss Luke had a story to tell and the right voice to tell it. Laura’s heavily anticipated debut album “Single Mother Chronicles” was released in 2010. With R&B singles like "Beautiful Mistake" and "Extra Extra" the message of joy, struggle, and triumph found on “Single Mother Chronicles” is appreciated by mothers and appealing to many. “I have done what no other artist before me has done in dedicating my entire debut album to the single mother. My mission is to use my music to motivate the masses to understand the needs of the single mother,” said Laura Luke.
With her warm melodies and witty musicality Laura Luke dazzles crowds regularly at various venues and events. She will be featured on ABC 33/40’s Talk of Alabama on Friday, November 19TH @ 9 am. She has also opened for international artists Donnell Jones & Julie Dexter. "Single Mother Chronicles", dubbed "pop jazz", is now available at Muzik & More Five Points West, at www.LauraLukeMusic.com and iTunes worldwide.

Hailing from Birmingham, Alabama, Laura Luke (born Laura Mae Coleman), penned her first poetic prose at age six and discovered her talent for writing and singing at age eight. She grew up singing in churches around the state with her sisters as part of their gospel group known as “Holiness is Right”. It was during this time that the budding musician also honed her passion for trumpet playing, jazz and the spotlight with the late Jothan Callins as a part of the legendary Birmingham Youth Jazz Ensemble. “Mr. Callins was so special, so important to the young musicians in our community. He taught me my first vocal jazz tune "Solitude" and pushed me out in front of the band,” said Laura.

Laura Luke's budding romance with jazz and newfound confidence set the stage for her emergence as a lead vocalist. As with most artists, as she matured, so did the subject matter of Laura Luke’s music. In 2003, Laura decided to write music that fit her lifestyle as an adult. She explains, "I loved God deeply and still do, but it‘s important for me to live and write truthfully. I needed to write about my life and the human emotions of the average person."

After six years of marriage, childbirth, divorce, and job loss Luke had a story to tell and the right voice to tell it.
