Texas singer songwriter/activist Laura Marie pulls together pop, folk and poetic influences to color her deeply introspective lyrics about truth, life and love.

Laura Marie's message to the world exists on a plane the reaches far beyond music, but thankfully she is one of those writers gifted enough to focus the roller-coaster of the human condition into song. Her latest release, The Season, is a reflection on unconditional love and resolution planted firmly in the singer-songwriter genre. Laura Marie offers some peace within the chaos of life through music, both for herself and as an offering to the world.

The San Antonio native grew up steeped in poetry and music, earning her degree in music education and paying her dues in bands in Central Texas and beyond. There have been awards and accolades since (she won the OurStage Texas Lilith Fair Competition in 2010 and was a Regional Finalist in the Mountain Stage NewSong Contest), and audiences are continually drawn in to Laura Maries performances because of her honesty and passion. David Crabb from the Austin Acoustical Cafe noted, "Laura Marie captured the hearts of our audience with her energy, and she warmed the stage and the room with her talented performance.

The Season was recorded with longtime friend and sideman Jake Owen, whose credits as a producer and sideman include The BoDeans, Goldspot, and Sahara Smith. The project was originally going to be an EP, but the process went so well they turned it into a 12 track full-length project. The Season brings home the truth that there is growth from struggle, and the theme of moving from darkness to light permeates the album. Laura Maries reminder throughout is that, We are made to love....we collapse when we forget its about love. This is a connection everything shares...it applies globally all the way down to the cellular level. The Season sings this message loud and clear both musically and lyrically; I hope this album gives people excuses to love....what else are we made for?

IN THEIR WORDS...

"Laura Marie captured the hearts of our audience with her energetic performance. She warmed the stage and the room with her talent and songwriting."
- Austin Acoustical Cafe

"Laura Marie's music is a true delight. Her lyrics are honest and memorable. Our audience was captivated by her heart-warming performance."
-Riff House Concerts

"San Antonio-based pop/folk artist Laura Marie writes songs that non-musicians dream of writing. The lyrics will personally touch the listener as if the songs were written just for them. Common life experiences are turned into remarkable tunes that address real issues..."
-Joseph A Italiano, Skope Magazine

We Are Liars

Written By: Laura Marie

We Are Liars

walking in the pain of every moment every day
every thing we didnt do, everything we couldn't say
holding tight to what is wrong, close our eyes, carry on
no reason to the rhyme and there's no way
its a long night, its a long night and the waiting's just a price we pay

We are liars seeking shadow from the light
We are doubters and we don't know what is right
We are losers in every consequence we fight
We are prostitutes and whores when we dont know what we're for

in the center of the stage, we are prisoners in a cage
we are tethered to the past we are dragging age to age
its a weight we can abide when we're standing side by side
but alone we long to disengage
its a long night its a long night it's a war against the truth we wage

We are liars seeking shadow from the light
We are doubters and we don't know what is right
We are losers in every consequence we fight
We are prostitutes and whores when we dont know what we're for

for love, for love, for love we are made
for love, for love, for love we are made, made, made
oh, we're made, oh, we're made

pride and pain and fear and stain and anger that we cant contain
the things we hide the tears we cry the memories we are haunted by
all the worry, all the weight all these things are done away with
every single step of faith, every moment filled with grace
sing glory alleluia, sing glory alleluia

We are liars seeking shadow from the light
We are doubters and we don't know what is right
We are losers in every consequence we fight
We are prostitutes and whores when we dont know what we're for

We are liars seeking shadow from the light
We are doubters and we don't know what is right
We are losers in every consequence we fight
We are prostitutes and whores when we dont know what we're for
We are prostitutes and whores when we dont know what we're for

Dark Horse

Dark Horse

Memories run a reel in your head
Like the sheets at the foot of your bed
You’re dirty, they’re never gonna hold your hand

Sorrow sounds like a song on repeat
Music loud and the melody sweet
Unworthy, they only wanna hear the band

So, maybe you’re a lost cause or maybe you’re a dark horse just like me
So, maybe you’re a lost cause or maybe you’re a dark horse just like me

Feel alive when you’re singing a song
Feel alone in the car driving home
Long journey for living in the promised land

Tie your heart to a moment, you’re crushed
All for asking and wanting too much
Don’t worry, they’re never gonna understand

So, maybe you’re a lost cause or maybe you’re a dark horse just like me
So, maybe you’re a lost cause or maybe you’re a dark horse just like me

You and I on paper, a savior’s delight
You and I are greater, we’re bathed in light

Take a look and you’re never the same
Take a walk and be washed in the rain
Don’t hurry, you know you gotta make it last
Don’t hurry, you know you gotta make it back

So, maybe you’re a lost cause or maybe you’re a dark horse just like me
maybe you’re a lost cause or maybe you’re a dark horse just like me
maybe you’re a lost cause or maybe you’re a dark horse just like me

Open Means Broken

Open Means Broken

I think you’re good. I think you’re perfect
I like the way you play your part just as you are
I think you’re beautiful with all of your sadness
When I hear your words that hardly get heard, I take them to heart

I wouldn’t write a song about my life to change who you are
I wouldn’t write a song about you now to take you apart
But now you know open means broken

I think you're right and even your madness
Shines a light from deep inside that I need to see
I know you’re innocent but I know you’re dirty
There’s nothing you can’t be with me that you need to be

I wouldn’t write a song about my life to change who you are
I wouldn’t write a song about you now to tear you apart
But now you know open means already broken

Oh, now, don’t go into hiding. Oh no, don’t you leave this world
Oh, we’re lost but we’re still finding everything we wished we could
we still could

‘cause I think you’re good. I think you’re perfect
I like the way you play, you play your part
I’ll let you be whatever you’ll be whoever you are
I’ll let you be whatever you’ll be whoever you are

Lunatic Moon

Written By: Laura Marie

Lunatic Moon

There’s a whole and perfect heart inside your chest
And it’s beating with the love that it’s confessed
Echoes through your hallowed halls right into mine
As it’s sounding out the steps of the divine

I will follow through the night though may never catch the sight
Of what’s hidden by the light of a lunatic moon

There’s a true and holy thought inside your head
It is heard before the words are even said
Ringing off the temple walls just like a bell
Sounds a symphony inside this prison cell

Could be the sweetest, most sincere music loud and clear
But it’s the silence that I hear on a lunatic moon

See how the tide is rising now
The undertow can bring us down
We are pulled but we don’t know how or why
We rise

There’s a pure but ancient place inside your soul
Where it’s safe and far beyond the moon’s control
Let the music there surround you like a shroud
Until you find the words to sing your song out loud

Though the sweetest sound of all will be harmony that calls
From the shadows that will fall on a lunatic moon

See how the tide is rising now
The undertow can bring us down
We are pulled but we don’t know how or why

We rise, we rise
Under a lunatic moon, under a lunatic moon
Under a lunatic moon, under a lunatic moon

Angel, Please

Written By: Laura Marie

Angel, please, now will you come to me
I need your guiding light. I need your light to see
I held the darkness near. I need your love to clear the way

I held a spark in hand, started a fire with it
Burned every building down, now that it’s over with
I need a path to take. I need your love to make a way

Oh, how I pray for her
Oh, how I pray for her
Everyday

Angel, please, I made a big mistake
I took a truth to heart that wasn’t mine to take
I tore her world apart, now she’s a broken heart away

If ever you could lay to rest my shame
Then sing to her and gently call her name
Oh, let your light appear, take all the pain and fear away

Oh, how I pray for her
Oh, how I pray for her
Everyday

There was light in her eyes, it was shining like starlight
That vision of her remains
And I know if it’s not for my eyes to behold
I just want her to shine again

Angel, please, you know the cause of it
You know a sacred truth only our hearts admit
when only they break and bleed.
Oh, will you come and lead the way

Oh, how I pray for her
Oh, how I pray for her
Everyday

Honest

Written By: Laura Marie

I don't speak in code anymore
Guess I've learned that its best to be perfectly clear
At least I think it might spare me the pain of reliving this year
Not that I haven't seen beautiful things
Some that I needed to see. I just don't want my life
to be one lesson learned on repeat
Just like all of these songs that I sing, some I've been singing for years
Just like some of the words that you said still ring in my ears

You called me honest, said that makes me dangerous
If that means you're safer further from the truth
Then it's good to be nothing but honest to you

All the days of my life I've been searching for all of the truth
I can find.
Guess I finally learned that I've found it when I've spoken mine
I know I’ve lied like the best of them.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying I'm clean
I just can't live the counterfeit life that comes with the deceit
I sort through all of the words that you said, some I just wanted to hear
Still I can not bury the ones I believe were sincere

You called me honest, said that makes me dangerous
If that means you're safer further from the truth
Then it's good to be nothing but honest to

You…in the absence of words,
Maybe you’re listening to some you haven’t heard
Not in the same way before
Cause everything got in the way
The minute you walked through the door
It was all leading up to the day

You called me honest, said that makes me dangerous
If that means you're safer further from the truth
Then it's good to be nothing but honest to you
