Bio
Born in east Tennessee in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, music has been an essential part of Laura’s life from the start. Laura began singing and dancing for family and friends at age three. Through school, Laura participated in her school choir and continued studying many forms of dance. Piano lessons and participation in her school band sparked a further interest in music and theory.
Laura is currently in Los Angeles and has been living in New York City. Laura has studied with experienced musicians, including Don Lawrence, Ann Ruckert, Tom Kitt and John DeGrazio and is proud to be a member of the Recording Academy. Laura is currently working with famed producer Keith Shocklee on a track, written by Laura.
Laura has performed at Manhattan clubs and also performed in the NYC Harlem Week Festival and the NYC Six Nights to Live Festival. Laura incorporates her love of singing and dancing during her performances in NYC and NJ productions of the classic musicals, Dreamgirls and The Music Man, and is a member of the musical theatre group, The Blue Hill Troupe. Laura has also been asked to participate in a showcase in Vancouver to promote the Violet Femmes CD.
Laura's music has been chosen to be on the CD, Music for Coffee Beings, currently being played in coffee houses across Canada. Laura's music has also been chosen for inclusion on a compilation Rock CD featuring NYC artists to be promoted nationwide. The Violet Femmes CD also includes Laura's music and is available for sale.
Laura's music has recently been chosen to be included in an all female performer compilation CD to be produced by rep. from Universal Music. The CD will be available for sale in 2009. Laura's tracks are also played on www.dbsradio.net.
Laura was recently honored an award for her songwriting skills in the Mid-Atlantic Song Contest, as well as, the Finalist Award in the annual USA Songwriting Competition.
Laura’s musical interests are diverse and varied - from Pop/Rock to R&B to Electronica. Laura has worked with NY, CA and NJ based producers and DJs. Laura has performed lead vocals on a re-make of a Depeche Mode track, performed background vocals on an upcoming album, as well as, recorded her own songs. Having created a songbook of original music and lyrics from the heart, Laura believes the best is yet to come!
