"Laura McGreevey Named November “Best Vocalist Of The Month” With Her Song “Hold Me”"

By Dale Kawashima

Laura McGreevey, a talented pop/AC/Christian singer & writer based in Vancouver, WA (near Portland), has won the November SingerUniverse “Best Vocalist Of The Month” Competition, for her performance of her song “Hold Me.” This song is featured on her new six-song EP Laura McGreevey, which she will be releasing independently on November 16 (2007).

“Hold Me” is an appealing, graceful Christian/pop ballad which is both well produced and performed. The song has a very pretty melody, and it provides an excellent showcase for McGreevey’s expressive, heartfelt vocals. The recording also features a fine string arrangement, plus first-rate production by the team of Kris McGreevey (Laura’s husband, who plays guitar), Shawn Lewis (guitar), and Tim Downing (keyboards).

McGreevey grew up in the Portland area, in a very musical environment. Both of her parents were professional musicians – her father was a drummer and her mother a pianist. McGreevey’s family was also very religious and active in their church – her father was a pastor. “I definitely grew up heavily into ministry; it helped shaped my faith at a young age,” said McGreevey.

Following her high school years (she was home-schooled), McGreevey accepted a scholarship to attend Multnomah Bible School in Portland, where she majored in music and theology. It was there that she met her future husband, Kris. The couple decided to marry and start a family (they have three young children), so Laura McGreevey put her music career on hold during this period.

Then in 2005, McGreevey began focusing again on her music, writing and recording songs for her debut six-song EP, Laura McGreevey. She wrote some of the songs with Kris, and then she recorded the tracks at Down Beat Sounds studio in Vancouver, WA (in the summer of 2007), teaming up with co-producers/musicians Shawn Lewis and Tim Downing.

Now with the release of her EP, McGreevey is looking forward to actively promoting her music, selling her CD at local retailers, via the internet, and at churches and resource centers. She has also formed a band and is playing shows regionally. “We’re exploring our options,” she said. “We might shop to a bigger label, but right now we’re independent.” In addition, McGreevey is writing and recording more songs, which will be featured on her first, full-album release, which is due out next Spring. - Singer Universe Magazine

Bio

Laura has been singing most of her life, and began writing her own music over 11 years ago. After marrying Kris McGreevey 2001, she and her new husband started creating music together based on Laura's intriguing lyrics and melodies. Out of this collaboration came the material for Laura's upcoming EP.
Laura's influences include Avril Lavigne, Ashlee Simpson, Kelly Clarkson, and Christian music artist influences such as Natalie Grant and Nicole Nordeman.
Coming from a strong religious background, Laura's writing incorporates strong values, without crossing the line of having to be classified as one genre or the other (Secular vs. Christian). While keeping the integrity of the music, both lyrically and musically, she blends "real" life with music, bringing a unique blend to listeners everywhere.
Produced by Kris, Tim Downing and Shawn Lewis, and joined by top notch players from the area, the team completed Laura's EP at Downbeat Sounds in Vancouver, WA. Laura is currently in the process of recording her first full-length album, "And So She Would Sing".
