Laura Roy

Canadian Singer/songwriter Laura Roy was born October 8th, 1991 and raised in the small village of Canning, Nova Scotia. She began singing, writing poems and composing music around the age of 10. Not long after she started guitar lessons she began to perform at talent shows and festivals around Nova Scotia. Laura recorded her first EP album at the age of 16 and sold copies of it out of her backpack on school lunch breaks. She went on to study at the Nova Scotia Community College in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, enrolling in a two-year Music Arts program majoring as a vocalist. During that time she sang vocals in several different bands ranging in styles including R&B, Soul, Blues, Funk and Latin all while performing and writing her own solo work. She also began collaborating and performing with local hip-hop artists writing and singing on hooks in Halifax. In 2013 Laura released a second self-titled EP album and was voted “Best R&B Artist 2013” by the Coast Magazine. She was invited to attend the Gordie Sampson Song Camp in Ingonish, Nova Scotia; a weeklong intensive songwriting camp spearheaded by Grammy Award Winning songwriter Gordie Sampson. Laura continues to develop her songwriting skills while participating at SAC Writing Camps (Song Writers Association of Canada) and co-writing with writers/producers from across the country. Now based in Toronto, Laura is currently working on a brand new solo project melding merging catchy pop-hooks with a modern r&b/urban flare and her unmistakable powerful vocals.
