Bio

Laura Samsel has been playing music for as long as she can remember. It may have started with the colorful star stickers her mother placed on the piano when she was two, to teach her which notes were which, or it could have started long before that, when she learned every lyric to Bruce Springsteen's "Thunder Road", shortly after she learned to talk. Whatever it was, it made a lasting impression on her.
Throughout childhood, Laura continued to expand and explore her musical abilities and was trained in guitar of both the classical and blues variety, piano, violin, and voice, and began writing songs in her early teens. After short-lived experiences with several bands that never made it past sweet 16 birthday parties, she began writing more and performing at venues around Seattle as a solo artist. In 2009 she recorded an EP entitled "Hyper-Distilled", in which she worked with such notable artists as guitarist Ari Joshua, upright bassist Jon Hamar, and cellist Lori Goldston. Most recently, Laura has been performing with Seattle alt-country band Pufferfish as a backup vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. Although her own music is mostly of a country variety, she enjoys and is influenced greatly by such artists as Ani DiFranco, Bruce Springsteen, The Dresden Dolls, and Fleetwood Mac, and draws heavily from the musical style of Neko Case, Loretta Lynn, and lesser-known artists such as Amanda Shires, Zoe Muth, and Holly Golightly.
