Bio
ASCAP Plus Award winning singer-songwriter-guitarist Laura Wetzler, the restless daughter of a truck driver and a synagogue music director, grew up wailing Beatles and Carole King tunes into a spoon mic on her mother's organ bench. As a kid, she taught herself guitar, studied clarinet, and timed cuts for her mother's worldbeat radio show featuring obscure field recordings from Jewish communities in Africa and Asia. Billie Holiday, Shoshana Damari, Nina Simone, Aretha and Joni Mitchell rounded out her scholarship degree in voice. With roots in NY's downtown Fast Folk & Brooklyn arts scenes and a passion for music history Laura has created over 35 different shows featuring intimate original story songs, and a high energy, wildly diverse American blues, folk rock, jazz, family, and worldbeat repertoire. "great voice, great writing" WBAI-NYC.
