"Tribute to "The First Family of Country Music" March 26"

Catch "A Tribute to the Carter Family," a production of The Small Town Concert Series (STCS) featuring performances by Amalgamated Muck and Stay Tuned, on Friday, March 26 at 7 p.m. at the Ivoryton Congregational Church, 57 Main Street. STCS digs deep into the American song book to bring to life a concert full of old-time country songs made popular by the Carter family, like "Keep on the Sunny Side," "Wildwood Flower," "Wabash Cannonball," and "Will the Circle Be Unbroken?" Johnny Cash introduced Mother Maybelle Carter and her daughters singing "Wildwood Flower" on his show in 1970, some 43 years after her original group's first recording session. He called the Carters "the first family of country music." Throughout the '60's, the Man in Black rarely toured without taking along Maybelle Carter and the girls-including June Carter, Cash's second wife.

This will be the kickoff concert for a new series that STCS is producing for the benefit of the
Ivoryton Congregational Church. Called the "TGIF Evening Songs," the shows will occur the last Friday of every month at 7 p.m. and will conclude with ice cream, included as part of the admission price. Tickets can be purchased at the door the night of the show only; prices are $15 for adults and $8 for seniors and students (aged 15 to 22). Children 14 years and younger accompanied by an adult are admitted free.

"Amalgamated Muck at the Buttonwood Tree"

AMALGAMATED MUCK
Lauren Agnelli, Matthew Male, Ebin-Rose & Rodney Maxwell

Since playing shows together in Small Town Concert Series and joining musical forces, the melodic amalgamation of Lauren Agnelli with Matthew Male, Ebin-Rose and Rodney Maxwell has become more than just some pretty mucking about – they’re now Amalgamated Muck! Best described as folky rock with a hint of country, Amalgamated Muck is spirited performances of great original songs and very tasteful choices of cover material (including Leonard Cohen, Stan Rogers, Joni Mitchell and the Carter Family).

Brian “Ebin Parker” Wolfe of Ebin-Rose comes from that British Folk tradition (Nick Drake, John Martyn), and Rodney Maxwell, from a country and rock background (Johnny Cash, Lowell George), while Lauren Agnelli hailed from Grammy-nominated Contemporary Folk group, the Washington Squares (Peter, Paul & Mary meets The Violent Femmes). In between virtuostic instrumentalizing by Brian and Rodney on mandolin, guitar, tipple, etc., vocalist Rose Bengston (of Ebin-Rose) harmonizes with Lauren on bass and vocals for a lovely new sound that’s emotional and stirring; Matthew Male helps keep it all together on the drumbox or cajon. In total, there’s never a dull moment with Amalgamated Muck, so come on out & come on down!

Bio

As a songwriting musician, Lauren Agnelli has explored many styles of American popular music throughout her wide-ranging career, writing and co-writing hundreds of songs, recording dozens of cds. In 2010, Lauren writes and performs with the Small Town Concert Series that she co-founded with her husband, Matthew Male, in 2007. She also performs solo, with co-writer Dave Rave, and with "Americana Sweethearts" Amalgamated Muck. She’s been part of CBGB’s punk popsters out of CBGB’s, Nervus Rex; a co-founder of Grammy-nominated Washington Squares; an acoustic folkrocker with the half-Canadian Agnelli & Rave with Dave "Rave" DesRoches. She also wrote and recorded with nuclear polka musical geniuses and two-time grammy winners Brave Combo on the torchy 1996 release, Kiss of Fire.

In 2004 on Love Always Follows Me, Lauren Agnelli sang and wrote for the “hopeful, not hopeless” romantic. In fact, her clear-eyed optimism and belief that the best is yet to come (if not here now!) remains a true Lauren trademark. In 2010, she is completing a new collection of original songs in the Americana vein -- and appearing on tour with Dave Rave when available.

Other than writing almost a hundred ASCAP-registered songs, Lauren sings lead and harmony vocals. She plays electric bass, 6 and 12-string acoustic/electris guitars and an acoustic/electric ukulele. . .oh, harmonica and glockenspiel, too.

AMALGAMATED MUCK bio: Since playing shows together in Small Town Concert Series and joining musical forces, the melodic amalgamation of Lauren Agnelli with Matthew Male, Brian Wolfe, Rose Bengston and Rodney Maxwell has become more than just some pretty mucking about – they’re now officially Amalgamated Muck! Best described musically as Americana music (folky rock with harmonies and a hint of country), Amalgamated Muck does spirited performances of their own original songs, as well as some very tasteful choices of cover material.

There’s never a dull moment with Lauren Agnelli or Amalgamated Muck, so come on and listen!
