Lauren Aquilina

Sixteen year old, Bristol-born Lauren Aquilina, is a songstress armed with melancholic piano-driven melodies and lyrical content delivered with an overwhelming underlying honesty.

Lauren discovered her love for writing and performing music at a very young age and nothing has held her back ever since. Singing as soon as she could speak, writing songs since the age of eight and playing the piano since the age of nine, music is all Lauren has ever wanted to do. “It’s such a cliché but music literally is everything to me. Growing up I used it as a great way to express myself and it was my way of unleashing the bundles of energy I had at that age like most kids do. As much as I probably gave them a headache with my non-stop singing and piano playing, my parents were very supportive of me,” she laughs.

While Lauren is a fan of television-based reality shows, she strongly believes in keeping her music organic and true to herself. Writing and performing all of her own music, this girl is paving her own way to the top. “I watch shows like The X Factor and they have some great singers on there, but that’s not for me because I love writing and being able to perform my own songs,” she says. “I’d much rather try some other ways of getting into the music industry first, where I could stay as a songwriter too. Songwriting is one of the elements of music I enjoy most and I think having a song I’d written in the charts, or even just having people be able to connect with it in some way, would just be the best thing ever.”

Well those days are seemingly within touching distance because the half English, half Maltese teen has attracted a significant fan-base on social networking websites Facebook and YouTube, in which fans can keep up to date with her latest posts, music, videos and more. “My fans on Facebook and YouTube are brilliant. I get loads of support from them and have even had people sending me videos they have made for my songs!” Lauren adds.

A fan of such diverse artists as Stereophonics, Lissie and Lady Gaga, Lauren’s pop-tinged songs referencing loves lost and memories made are sure to resonate with all who hear them. Tracks such as the breathtaking piano-led ballad ‘Punished’ demonstrate a raw song-writing talent usually exhibited by artists twice her age. The fiery ‘Never Change’ fuses tales of heartbreak set against a backdrop of beautifully delivered pop mastery.

Stepping outside her world of music, Lauren enjoys spending time with her family and friends. “I’m very family orientated so I make sure I spend as much time with my family as I can. I put a lot of time into my school work too, I have to constantly remind myself that it needs to be done!”

Lauren is currently working on material to be included on her highly anticipated debut release. Speaking on this subject, Lauren reveals, “I’m so excited to get my first release out into the world! I’m pleased with the progress my music has made and continues to make. I’m always writing new music, drawing inspiration from my travels and experiences.” She adds, “I’m taking things one step at a time so that the quality of my music isn’t affected, but I am really excited for what the future holds.”
